How do you lock your RV Poll

I stopped many years back locking the paddle part of the lock as its easy to break that part then it's a real problem to get in. I now only lock using the dead bolt as never a problem.

What do you all do.

I never lock just the paddle, as I think it can be unlocked with a master key. The dead bolt can't. I normally lock both, but locking just the dead bold alone might be better in case someone tries to pull too hard on the paddle trying to get in and breaks it.

I rarely lock. I figure if someone wants in, they will get in either way. That and I have dogs inside and if ever there were a problem I hope somebody would open it and get them out. We have never had anything stolen while at a MI state park or forest campground. My parents, however, have had stuff stolen but they broke their lock to get in. It was on private property back in the woods so it was easy to do it without raising suspicion. If I do lock it, it's normally just the deadbolt. Like you said, the paddle is easy to break.

I just use the paddle, and for a good reason. Mine is stored in a locked area with 24 hour security patrols. It is stored 275 miles from home. Once, on the way down and over 200 miles from home, I realized I had forgotten my keys! My dealer is located across the street from my campground. I called the dealer, he informed me that if I had the deadbolt locked he could not help me. If just the paddle, I was in luck as they had a master key. I had used just the paddle, and have always continued to since.

lock the deadbolt. people like me have a shiny master key for the paddle.

I use both here at home but I do not lock when camping.

Wife locks everything and I don't lock anything. So it depends on who is last out. The lock is not going to stop a thief IMHO.

I lock both. My paddle and deadbolt are the same key...I hope there isn't a master for either. If I were a thief, I'd think it would be easier to enter certain TTs using a master key to get in the cargo area below the bed and break some thin ply to get inside.

A master key will unlock your paddle lock, but not the dead bolt. Your key will unlock both. As to the cargo locks, it is easy to change them to a non generic lock if you would want. That's what I have always done. I want to lock everything with a unique key. It won't stop a break in, but at least I will know when I've been broken into and can call the police and make it more evident when I file an insurance claim.

If someone wants to break in your house or RV they will. Locks on the door just keep honest people honest. I don't have an alarm system at my house but have a sign in my front yard that says I do. Having a dog is a huge deterrent. A criminal will skip my house for a house with no alarm or dog. There are quite a few ways someone can break in if they want. How long does it to break out a window?

I lock both, but I'm a bit leery about the standard keys, so at some point I will probably upgrade the locks. It really hasn't been a problem as my storage site is gated and has a resident on site, and the owner is frequently and randomly present after hours.

Guess it's more as a deterrent and for piece of mind since breaking in wouldn't be much of a challenge anyway.

I lock both, only because my DW insists. At camp I do not want to carry the keys, so I lock the door then toss the keys into the unlocked cargo hold, when I get back you know the rest.

A couple years ago we actual broke into our own trailer. Long story and will try to be short. It was a late spring and we had a LOT of snow that winter. We keep the trailer in a barn near my parents place, 100 miles from home. When we called the farmer, he said he could not get to that end of the barn yet as there was still over 4’ of snow on the ground. So we still went and visited my parents. We did not bring the keys as we were not able to pick up the TT. We were almost to my parent’s place, when the farmer called and said he plowed out the door and moved the TT into the yard, and we could pick it up any time. We had the truck, no keys and the hitch is stored inside the TT for the winter. We barrowed a cargo door key from my parents (nice that they are universal). We pushed up the seat bench up, that had a lot of stuff on it so it weighed a lot. The kid crawled through and unlocked the door from the inside, so we could get the hitch.

We have a keyless lock so I guess it locks the deadbolt. But we only lock the door when all of us (including the dog) leave the rig. If the dog is left in the rig I never lock it just incase something happens and someone needs to get him out in a hurry.

I got a set of 4 matching ACE cam locks for the outside compartments.

Dealers (and others) have a key for the paddle lock, but not for the deadbolt.

We don't usually lock in the campgrounds we go to. Do keep deadbolt lock locked when trailer is in our back yard.

Isn't it sad, parents never locked our doors when we were kids

Be aware that many keyless entry systems are easily reprogrammed with the push of two buttons from the outside including mine. Any would be thief or invader could be inside in seconds. I took the batteries out of mine on delivery and we just use the keys. The thought of someone coming inside while I'm sleeping kept me from sleeping.

We lock both not it would slow a theif down but the dw feels better if their locked
