How long will water stay "Fresh"?
This may be a stupid question, but here goes.
How long can you leave water in your fresh water tank before the quality starts to decline?
I see where a lot of people leave "some" water in their fresh tanks for emergencies and for use when traveling.

Not sure, I imagine chlorinated municipal water would last longer then well water. I can tell you that I left well water in my water heater tank for about 2 months (forgot to drain it after a trip) and the hot water smelled awful until I drained and sanitized the system.

Depends on where you get your water from. Mine stays in it all summer. There is nothing inherent in the tank to degrade it.

I wouldn't leave it in for any extended periods of time. Yes, it may be chlorinated water but after 24 hours any and all chlorine will have left the water. Anybody that keeps a fish tank would hopefully agree with me.
If it were me, I wouldn't go over a week.

I've had no problems going up to two weeks with the water in the fresh water tanks, whether from municipal or well. But I do have a charcoal filter for filtering any of the water I drink. Never noticed any off smell from the water.

The reason for asking is this.
We keep our camper in storage about 1 mile from the campground. We usually head down on friday afternoon after work, hook up and head to campground. Anything that i can do ahead of time, saves time when we get there, thus more camping time.
So, memorial day weekend is approaching and due to making reservations late, we have a site where we have to use the fresh water tank. (Electric, but no water) I was down this past weekend doing some mods, and i went ahead and filled the fresh water tank. That way i wouldnt have to wait for 90 gal of fresh water to fill on friday evening. I was just wondering if the water would still be ok. The camper is stored indoors out of direct heat and sunlight.

I think you will be just fine for that short period of time. No worries.

I think you would be just fine as well. Also depends on what you use the water for. Some folks don't like the taste of the water that has been sitting in the tanks - but it is just fine for the toilet and washing. Keep a case of water bottles on board for drinking or making coffee, etc if it does not taste quite right to you.

We never got into drinking or cooking with the RV Trailer water. Im sure it is ok to use but we just never did it. always bring bottled water for all of that. Im a bean coffee lover and those that know you have to use the same water all the time to keep your coffee taste the same. So I have to have same bottled water for that.
All we use the RV water for is showers and toliets and washing dishes etc... When i was doing the fifth wheel we always keep some water in the tanks just to keep sloshing around. (I think sloshing is a word)

X2. We never use the trailer water either for cooking/drinking. But our stays are not that long either.

We never use it for drinking, only for washing, bathing and toilet. We cook with and drink bottled water.
Thanks for all the replies! I figured it was ok, but wanted to check with the masses.

i don't keep fish in my fresh water tank. seems to me that bottled water stays fresh for along time in a plastic container, i would think the fresh water would last a long time. happy camping!

We spend extended periods in full service CGs, but we always keep the fresh water tank quite full- You never know when a water line will rupture in the CG and you'll be glad you have water on board- I drain and refill unused tank water but not as frequently as I should- However, the water has always tasted ok when we have had to use it- I drink it but the DW doesn't like to- Follow your own instincts- JMHO-DD
