How much does your dealer charge to winterize

We just bought our Jayco in January this year. I will be having the dealer do the winterizing the 1st year, then I will do it myself after that. Was wondering what type of costs to expect and what kind of savings I can hope to achieve by doing it myself.

I`ve never had it done at a dealer but posts here suggest for a TT the cost is around 100-120.00 to winterize, you can do it for less then 10.00

I did the same thing you are doing - had the dealer do it the first year and then I started doing myself this year. My dealer charged about $40 - this year my cost was 2 gallons of RV Anti-freeze at $4/g - so less that $10 just like Crabman said...

Too much, it's a do it yourself project.

Way too much. We were taking ours in for warranty service, and we would have to sign something saying they weren't responsible for any weather damage if we didn't have them winterize it too. We went ahead and agreed to it because it is our first winter with it, but not too happy about shelling out $144 for a relatively easy-to-do-yourself job.... Being out of town from the dealer was another factor....

Something else to consider- in the time it takes to hitch up and take it to your dealer you can have it done and be sitting back drinking a cold one. And that`s if he is real close by, and then there is going back and bringing it back home when its done. Then there is the gas towing it there and back.

Take your time and flush every valve and it's an easy DIY project. My buddy winterized his 26BH a few years ago and missed the outside shower. The next spring, he found shower valve had cracked from freezing.

I use an air compressor to blow out the lines then drop in a gallon antifreeze in each holding tank. I just open the low drain point valve for the fresh water tank...Done. About $8,00. BTW, ours has the tankless water heater, about the only good thing I found with the tankless.

Hopefully the price is closer to $40 than 140. Just want to watch and learn, plus chew the tech's ear about some other things. Thanks to those that actually gave me a price!

I had my seasonal campground winterize mine. For $75, it was worth not having tokill a day and travel 260 miles r/t

I'm pretty fortunate that the dealer is only 30 minutes from me. Hopefully the tech is in a talkative mood, because I'm loading up on some questions.

In my opinion, owning an RV means you need to know how to properly winterize it. It lets you get so much more use out of it. We'll dewinterize/winterize 5 or 6 times every year. On a modern RV it's just incredibly simple really. I think folks are intimidated by the whole idea, but it's really very simple.

I did our previous TT myself. Having the dealer do the FW ($80 bucks) this year because it went in today for an extensive list of warranty work. Said they were going to have it 2 to 3 months. So, even though I know it's rip-off, I just didn't want to worry about it this year with new FW..

I do it myself. If they do a crummy job and it leaks I don't want to have to fight with them to get it fixed

Agreed, for me it wasn't an issue with knowing how to do it. It's very simple. It was just for convenience.

Curious as to why you winterize/dewinterize 5 or 6 times a year? Do you take it out of storage regularly for winter trips?
