How Often Do Inspect your Roof? POLL

How many folks here actually go up on the roof of their trailer to clean and inspect it? I maybe over doing it but I go up and inspect my roof once a week and clean it once a month.

Have Solar - Once a week

Since I clean my Solar panel once a week, I take a walk around the roof to to clean off the tree droppings (twigs...) and see how everything is.

At least once a month for me and after every trip. After a storm and heavy rain I will also walk around the inside to inspect for standing water or ceiling stains. During the winter months I will get inside the TT to inspect for leaks at least once a month.

I also de-mount my tires once a week and inspect the valve stem seals from the inside and crawl under my truck and re-torque the muffler clamps every other day...Just kidding.

I put eternabond tape on all seams, that's it for me, done with looking at the roof.

I generally go up after every trip, especially if the campsite was tree covered. Heard all kinds of twigs, acorns, etc. hitting the roof last weekend and you never know what may cause damage

I go up on the roof and closely inspect it twice a year. Once in the spring when I uncover it and again when I put the cover back on in the fall. The trailer is parked directly below my bedroom window, so I can inspect the roof from about 10 feet every morning.

I'm on the 2x a year schedule for dedicated inspection. I get down on my hands and knees and closely inspect every inch of lap sealant from the cap to the back and everywhere in between. DW gets VERY nervous when I'm up there, so she monitors from the ground. It's handy because she can hand me stuff and call the ambulance if I fall!

However, if I'm camping in a spot with trees, I go up and sweep off the slide before we retract it and will do a quick inspection at that time. Not on my hands and knees or anything, just a quick once-over.

I also go over my entire interior with a flashlight when I do a storage check or when I drop something off or pick something up from the TT in between trips. And I'll make a special trip after a particularly bad thunderstorm (they're rare these days, but it happens). I open every cabinet and storage nook I have access to checking for ANY sign of water. Really it only takes a few minutes, and it helps me sleep at night.

The only reason I started this poll was to get a general idea on how much people do preventive maintenance on their trailer starting with the roof since that's where most leaks start.Personally I'd rather catch a problem before it creates additional problems and in this case water damage from leaks. But then again that's just my practice and opinion.

X2 with what Camper Bob said. I inspect once in Spring before we start the season and again as I get ready to winterize. I think if I had solar I'd be inclined to be up there more often.

Detailed roof inspection twice a year...., but take a glance at it every time I clean the debris off my slide roof before closing it (use multi-poistion ladder).

Since we camp in state parks with lots of trees, I too sweep off the slide before we close it. Take a look around while I'm up there especially sky light, fan and antenna mount areas.

Jayco appears to have done a good job on the caulk.

I check my roof for problems about four times a year; the slide roof I check for debris (which usually is present) each time before bringing it in.

I also check all the penetrations on the side of my trailer - windows, hatches, doors, lights, everything - about four times a year. The roof is the obvious focal point for leaks, but the side penetrations can cause just as much water damage.

I chose the once a month choice in the poll, as that response is closest to what I do.

Better add "Twice a Year", Crabman. I didn't vote either, because I check it a couple times a year.

I've never been on my roof. I inspect mine by standing on a ladder.

I would, since that is what Jayco recommends...., I didn't vote either.

Well I put once a month and I'm in Brookings, Or. Right now and we had 3" of rain last night and I still had 2 leaks to deal with this AM. I'm always on my hands and knees up on top because I know what water can do to these things.
One leak is at the AC unit ( it's a 2010 ) and covered all winter and when I'm not camping. It sees about 19 weeks a year of sunshine.
The second leak ( I have a Hybrid ) is at the edge of the front curve of the roof. Now I know about this leak and have gone over every inch of that edge and just can't find it for love nor money.

OK, add twice a year, BUT if we've already voted we can't change, right?
