How to protect woodwork in high traffic areas?

While doing some spring cleaning / maintenance I noticed this damage. It is right inside the coachs door. This is the "wood" framing to the sofa.

I have a couple young boys (2 and 7) and it is only going to get worse if I do not figure a remedy for this.

What do you guys do to protect these high traffic areas?

Well they do grow up eventually!

We don't have small kids with us but do see some wear and tear. I would re-stain it and put a clear vinyl corner on it to prevent further damage. I use Minwax stain sticks to cover the dings in a catching color. I had a post on this in the product review section recently.

Thanks for the reply. I do have a stain stick already as this is very similar in color to our kitchen cabinets.

Can you point me in the right direction as to where you found the clear vinyl corner pieces at? I have tried google and amazon with no luck to find corner guard for my application.

Thanks, I should have said I was hoping to find U shaped guards to fit over these. The dinette booth that sits on the other side of the doorway sticks out like the sofa does. It hasn't been damaged yet. I'd like to have coverage to both sides of the pressed wood / veneer.

I agree with the vinyl corners for the look. Any way you look at this you are in to touch ups now or later. I have a heavy duty solution given how much abuse the corner takes. Steel drywall metal J stops sold everywhere and are sold in 1/2" or 5/8" drywall/wood. Scuff /paint to a close color. Should be a good friction fit with some work with a putty knife to get on. If loose you can caulk it on with a product called draft seal that is removable with if no damage.

I would just put a corner guard on each side. In your picture there are no scuffs in the end past where the corner guard would attach.

You can look for them at most any big box store, carpet store or hardware.

Depending on how handy you are, you can get a piece of oak corner mold, cut it to fit and stain it to a matching or similar color to you interior. Sand and spray some polyurethane to finish it. You can attach it with a bead of silicone so you don't have to have any nail holes. This will solve your issue

If end clearance is nota problem, just get a piece of white oak cut to overhang each side and stain it to match. A couple of woodscrews would keep it up.
