How to quiet a generator

I have a champion 4000 watt generator and am curious if anyone has ever built a sound proof box for one. We don't use it often, but would like to start going to some parks without hook-ups. Most of our trips are in the summer due to kids in school so running the A/C here in NC is a must. I know it will never be silent, but would rather quiet it down then spend more $$ on an inverter. Any thoughts or suggestions?

If you go on you tube there are a few video's. I will say that since this engine is air cooled it will need good air flow or you will melt the piston.

Check out Youtube. Lots of inventive solutions there. Most involve a power-ventilated, sound insulated box. None that I saw were designed to be very portable. Some have even added automotive mufflers, but that's only half the battle; the motor makes quite a bit of its own noise.

Good luck!!
