I -10 From Florida to Texas

Well, we made it to Lafayette Louisiana on our trek west to Texas.

Man what a beating and pounding we are taking on I-10 in Louisiana.

When we stopped for the night we found the barrel door on the end of the kitchen cabinet with one broken hinge and the second one bent but still holding on.

To my amazement none of the screws pulled out of the wood, it ripped the metal in half on the hinge

Went to Home Depot got some heaver hinges and put three on in place of the two that were installed at the factory.

Lets hope the new hinges hold up to the fine roads in Louisiana.

I have never been on I-10 east of Texas but I've traveled I-10 from Ca. to Texas and I think is about the best road I've seen in all our travels. Hopefully the rest of your trip will be a lot smoother.

That's a rough stretch of road but better than it used to be. I feel your pain, brother since I go through there when I visit my folks up north. There aren't a lot options for getting around it either.

I learned years ago to avoid I-10 in Louisiana. It's a beating.

The bride and I made the round trip from Houston to Biloxi about a month ago and I know what you mean about I-10. At just the right speed it feels like the TV/TT will leave the ground. Very uncomfortable. We had no damage tho. Sounds like you've repaired it (better than new) and are back in business.
There was some construction on the bypass (I-12) around New Orleans that left me a bit white knuckled as well.

When I head north this summer, I am aiming for Natchez where we'll camp a few days then we'll take 20 east to avoid that whole ugly stretch. I think there's a road worse than that... somewhere up in NY from what I remember? Might have been 84N. It was constant bump, bump, bump to the point of being mind-numbing!

As a Cajun from south of Lafayette, I apologize for the roads. I assume the powers that be are using I 10 as a speed bump. Please don't let the roads stop you from stopping and enjoy our southern hospitality and good Cajun food.

I agree with James, now you know abouts the roads, so just slow down a little like the rest of us does. happy camping.

Oh, I remember that stretch of road well. It felt like I was riding a horse. I returned by a different route.

i've been making that trip... Houston to Pensacola several times a year, maybe more, since '82 when my family first moved to Texas... that stretch through LA is a lot better than it used to be!... it used to be just awful.

it all stems back to the time that LA refused to raise the drinking age to 21, therefore all of the federal highway dollars left the state, the already terrible roads just went to ****. much better now that they've got fed dollars to fix the roads... well, kinda better.

they still have a lot of work to do.


can anyone beat my record of 7 hours from Houston to my great uncle's driveway off davis highway in Pensacola?? (not towing anything, of course).

let's just say i had the ears pinned back that trip.
