Jayco Factory Tour Pictures!

I took the Jayco Factory Tour while in Middlebury, Indiana to pick up my new Eagle 330RSTS TT. The factory workers get to work by 5am and are usually done before lunch. And guess what, that is when the factory tour begins. So, you do not get to see anything actually being built. I guess they do not want you to see how fast there people are working so they can go home early. They have a quota. Once its met, they can go home. Not real conducive to quality work IMO. The majority of the staff are Omish.

Let me know if you have any questions about what you see. The trolley is used to take the visitors back and forth from the main service building. Totally isolated from the rest of the facility. It would have been nice to talk to some of the marketing people.

Fairenatic,

Thanks for sharing.

Did you have to make an appointment to do the tour or where you able to walk in and take it at the time they offer it?
Jayco's web site states "Complimentary tours of our luxury fifth wheel manufacturing plant are conducted Monday through Thursday at 12 p.m. and are offered by appointment only.", which is somewhat confusing but seems to indicate that you need to make an appointment prior to taking the tour.

Nice picture of your new unit - congratulations.

Not sure if it has changed but we toured it a few years back and we had to make an appointment.
BTW, all the makers of rv's have tours. Very interesting time. We toured 3 plants.

We toured the factory the Monday after July 4th weekend last year. We called to make an appointment, but you technically don't have to. Due to the trolley having limited seating, they put a maximum on the number of people that can tour on a given day. They say to make an appointment to make sure your spots are reserved and that you don't show up to be turned away.

The receptionist specifically said, walk-ins are welcome if we have the room, but we try to discourage it so people don't show up to find that we can't accommodate them.

Also, on our tour, the factory workers were still on site by the time we made it into the factory (Also the Pinnacle/North Point factory). To combat the noise, everyone was given radio headsets to hear the guide.

Outside of the Main building where you first enter to take the tour, they have 1 model of each line in a yard to explore. We were lucky in that the NP 377RLBH happened to be out there when we toured. It was the unit we wanted to see, and the receptionist had to print off the specs sheet as the brochures for it weren't printed until the following week.

Thanks for the compliment.

Our tour was pretty light. I assume it is still a quiet time for Jayco until the weather warms up a bit more. I did have to make an appointment but they seemed fairly flexible this time of year.

There is a ten minute video at the beginning that gives you a little history of Jayco and how the name came about. Then, we were issued sound amplifiers and safety glasses and directed to the trolley.

Took a little over an hour for the whole tour. There were units for one to walk through if you so desired.

Thanks everyone for the info on the factory tour.

We plan to be there in July this summer, so we'll make sure we call for an appointment prior to arriving.

Great pics!
I guess that ends the debate of whether the NP/Pinnacle roof trusses are metal or wood.
Did you see what the floors are made with?
How about the 7way trailer wires. Did you see how they get them from the front to the back?
I, for the life of me, cannot see them coming out of the front overhang anywhere.

workers being gone and tour beginning...the timing may have to do with Amish and Mennonite beliefs. they do not like, want, or permit to have their pictures taken. just a thought.

I'm a Mennonite and I love having my picture taken.
And I also love electricity, diesel trucks and living in the 21 century.

I think they bail by noon because they also have a farm to operate and there are only so many hours of daylight.

Thanks for sharing the tour pics. I did that at the Keystone Factory in 2013, they slap these things together very quickly. Your new unit looks great!

The floors were made with tongue and groove plywood decking. I was disappointed to see that the laminate flooring is NOT all one piece.

All the wiring was run under the frame, for the most part. Very few penetrations through the floor.

It was very hard to see anything in detail. We just were too far from the assembly line and since no one was actually performing work, it was hard to say how things were actually put together.

I hear what you are saying. But, I would have gladly given up the right to take photos to actually see how things were assembled. The whole reason I went on the tour in the first place. If I wanted to see finished product, I could have surfed the internet.

Thanks magnumsoldier. Hagrid (TV) and Madame Maxine (TT) make for a LONG rig but they play well together.

I was going to do a walk through video but it is still raining cats and dogs here. Maybe tomorrow.

Nice pics of the plant. I guess they are all fivers being built there. Did you get to see any TT`s being built or just tour the one plant?

They cycle the different types of RV through the plant we were in so it is just the luck of the draw (reservation date). The Class A's and C,s are in a different plant\building and tours of them are separate. I did not tour the latter.

You may want to call now and verify that they will even be giving them. The day we were there the people conducting them said that ours was the last one for a while.
I would want to avoid being disappointed.

PS: Don't miss the RV Museum.

Maybe they don't offer tours during model year changeover? Don't know how much "retooling" they have to do from one year to the next but that would make sense to me.

Fairenatic, thanks for sharing. Somehow I haven't seen this thread before today. I would like to visit and even more I'd love to pick my trailer up from the factory. How did you arrange that and I guess they have someone to PDI it with you?

Edit: Or did you mean you picked up from a dealer near the factory...? I'm thinking that is what you meant. My mistake.
