Jayco Hard side pop up owners

We just pick up our Jayco Sport H hard side pop up camper. Can anyone give us any helpful tips for our first trip?

I have no experience with a hard side - I have a 1207 pup. There are lots of beginner threads here, and I encourage you to read them all.

I think the single best suggestion is to do camp driveway your first time (or two). Get familiar with everything, and if you forget something, it should be just a short walk away. Once you are certain you have everything, make your first trip relatively close to home.

Are you Joliet, IL by any chance?

Congratulations on the new trailer and welcome to the forum.

Hints? I'd say relax and take it slow. It's not rocket science and it's not a race. And like Owen Stubbs said, stay close to home the first time or so.

It might be helpful if you mentioned some things like... Is this your first trailer? Have you been camping at all before? Have you towed a trailer before?

You'll find lots of hints if you use the 'search' function. You'll probably find way more information than you wanted or needed.

We have a hot water heater, frig that runs on three way. Have to sanitize the water holding tank. First time with a pop up that has all the moder features. Our old pop up did not have a frig, or water tanks etc. I think we just have to try these thing out to see how everything works.

The fridge will run down your battery pretty fast if you have one. Obviously runs great on shorepower, and is reasonably efficient on LP. Hot water heater is the item we use the least. Its not like I am using the outdoor shower for actual bathing. I guess its nice to have for teeth brushing and the occasional dish washing.

Not sure what your heater has for a drain, but mine was just a nylon plug. I removed that and replaced it with a nipple, and a plumbing supply line with valve for easier draining. The idea came from other people. You can read about it here: http://www.jaycoowners.com/forums/f3...r-20005-3.html

Thanks for the tips. There is a nylon threaded plug for the hot water drain. I will drain the antifreeze and sanitize the water holding tank. Not sure if there is a bypass for the hot water tank. The manual from Jayco is specific for my unit. I will check with Ricks RV, where we bought the pop up.
