Keeping awning dry in storage

I've got a 2011 23B with powered awning...

Even though I'm careful to make sure I put it away dry, inevitably when I open it again, there's water on it especially at the end by the roll.

I store the trailer with a slight nose up to make sure rain runs to the back. I expected that any water in the awning would have run out also, but apparently not.

I've seen awning storage covers for sale and even some DIY instructions...wondering if they actually work and would keep it dry.

Any other tips & tricks?

Thanks!

my awning is the same (23B). Someone had stated that they use saran wrap during storage to wrap the ends. Obviously, make sure the awning is dry first. I might try that this year during winterization but it surprising how much water collects simply from entering the ends.

Wouldn't think saran wrap would hold up well..

This looks like a better choice..

But I think I like the ones made out of lightweight PVC drainage pipe better.

That's only a good idea if you are sure the awning is completely dry AND you can be absolutely sure the saran wrap will not leak - even if a big wind/rain storm comes up while in storage. If not, the saran wrap will hold in the moisture and promote mildew and mold.

I've seen the awning covers. It seems they should protect against UV rays, but I'm not so sure about keeping moisture out - and they would be a PITA to put on and take off. A ladder would be required.

If you DO get any mildew, etc on your awning (I usually do each year), you can easily clean it. I use a bucket of soapy water (about 4-5 gallons) with a 1/2 cup of bleach added. Wet the awning. Using a long-handled brush, scrub the awning top and bottom. Then roll the awning up and let it sit for about a half-hour. Then unroll and rinse. The awning will sparkle like new!

I think all awning on all campers have the same issue. I have just accepted that it will be wet when we open it up.

Both of these are very cool ideas!

I agree with this. It's only my second season as a camper owner but I'm not surprised when it's wet when I open it. Now there are times it is dry but I'm not surprised when it is wet.

My Soggy Awning Solution

I've now used the attached mod for two years (including outside winter storage). The awning has stayed dry when covered. Its also a great UV block! Obviously, this works well with my 10' awning, and you'd need to add a bit more gutter to adapt it to your awning length, but that should be fairly easy to do.

P.S. I'm rather sure this will NOT stay on for traveling (but if you try it, let me know if it works).
