LED awning light question

I have acquired one of the LED light sets discussed in another thread. I am debating whether to mount them on the awning tube or just under the awning on the trailer so they could be viewed with the awning rolled up. I prefer under the awning but my concern is when traveling the strip would be exposed to wind and weather and could come loose. Please ease my concerns or justify them so I can make a decision! Which way should I go? How many went with theirs on the tube or under the awning?

I think you should change this to a poll

BTW, I wanted to go on the side of the camper, but SWMBO didn't like that idea and said awning tube. So needless to say, they are on the awning tube.

On the bottom of the gutter. But mine isn't towed so I am not concerned about flying off.

Has anyone towed any distance yet with them on the bottom of the gutter?

Had the same concerns, so I went with the awning tube. Also, would love to have them permanently mounted, but don't want to drill holes. Also was concerned that the light from the gutter would shine throughout the CG more than on the awning tube.

10 ft strip on my gutter, and 6 ft strip on my awning... Only 1 set will be on a time until I figure out where I like them.

First impression, the gutter is more useful when the awning is closed.

Have not driven with them yet.

Somewhat off topic, but it is an awning light question. I figure everyone is probably using the supplied power supply. If I want to connect to 12 volt and get rid of the power supply how do I do it? I thought about connecting it behind the fridge panel, but what wire would I connect to the 12 volt?

As long as you get the surface good and clean I can't see it being a problem. Mine came with genuine 3M double stick which is what nearly every body molding on your vehicle is affixed with. MIne will be going below the gutter, but like others, I never tow it.

Once you have the area cleaned and dried, then wipe down the area with rubbing alcohol. Most of 3M adhesive work best with an alcohol prep or with a “primer” designed for the adhesive.

glsimms,

Same here. ALthough I'm going to mount them so I don't need to roll the awning out to benefit from the lighting, I'm not 100% sure exactly where I will permantly install them. I plan on taping them up with scotch tape until I know exactly where I want them to go, and them using the supplied 3M tape to permantly adhere them.

We are going with the tube. That way we have some aiming ability to point them where we want. Under the gutter they point one way and that is it. If it is to windy to have the awning out we are usually inside anyway. But as inexpensive as they are, we did see them on an RV at a show this weekend under a gutter so we might get a second set if we see happy campers that way here.

I had the same thought, as cheap as they are, if they hold up well on other people's when towing I could easily order another set and set them up under the gutter. But if I put them there I would hard wire them into the TTs 12V system. .

Well I ended up installing them on the awning tube. If others have success with them staying on under the gutter after towing I may add another set there later so both options would be available. As mentioned they are not that expensive, and my Amazon rewards points bought this set!

Darn you guys! Now you got me thinking about ordering a second set to put on the awning tube. I was happy with them under the gutter, but.....................
