LED replacement lights

In the past two years, I have had to replace more than half of my halogen ceiling lamps inside my Eagle. The GY6.35 bulbs were blowing out at a rate of one every 3 months; so, I finally bit-the-bullet and ordered 14 LED lamps to replace the halogens. I opted for the "warm white" effect. Initially, I ordered two @ $14.95 and paid an additional $3.90 for shipping. Although the web-store I purchased thru provided dimensions/specifications for the LED lamp I was purchasing, I figured I would just get two at first to make sure they fit with my OEM glass ceiling fixtures. Well the first two arrived today; and they fit and light just like the halogens. The immediate difference I noticed, is the lack of heat that the LED emits. As most of you know, halogens cast off enough heat to badly hurt you if you touch a bulb while lit (or even after a few minutes once it is off - they retain enough heat to fry an egg it seems). So, after successfully installing the first batch of LEDs, I just ordered 12 more to complete the switch-over. Since I spent more than $99.00 on this second order, I received free shipping. The overall cost will be saved in longevity and energy consumption. I highly recommend this "modification"...

Where did you purchase your LEDs?

I have a couple of the ebay LED arrays that come from China...they are very inexpensive but I am not 100% satisfied so looking at other options.

You never go wrong with LED's (as long as they are not the purple whites)

Just as an FYI to those that have halogen bulbs still... never ever touch them with your fingers. It will cause the bulb to blow within months... wear a clean cloth glove or use a clean tissue.

Swapped all my lights out for ebay leds and am very happy, when i first got them i thought they were pretty cheaply made but they work great and were a sixth of the cost of local dealers.

I guess I'm either lucky or I just don't use my ceiling lights that much because I have had to replace only one in a little over 2 years of full timing.

I replaced all the interior lights on our 31.5RLTS with the 36 led panels from Ebay at about $4.45 each with no freight. They came from China but they work great. They are warm white and give off light that is like that of the incandescent bulbs they replace.

These are the lights I used. And I see that now the price has dropped another $.45 cents, great bargan.

We replaced all of our lights with LEDs bought from eBay. Now we look like a rolling hospital. It's supposed to be warm white but I call it hospital white.

1/2 the bulbs failed within a month. A couple I had to adjust and I have no clue what was being adjusted. I just kept moving the wires around. They look like Christmas lights with the two thin wires and I messed with those until they worked.

We almost exclusively dry camp but DH built us a solar power battery re-charger so my hope is that we can go back to the original bulbs. The LEDs make us all look like vampires. But they were the difference between losing the battery by Sunday and having battery to spare by Sunday. Now we pull our boat battery as a spare until our solar is up and running.

Having LEDs saves tons on energy. DH thinks the trade off is worth it. I'm sure I do to. I'll just have to adjust my makeup.

We pay about $3 per light with the 24 or 36 diodes. It's worth it even if a few don't work.

One of the issues with Halogen and Xenon bulbs they are VERY temperamental to the voltage and vibrations. My parent’s house suffers voltage drops almost daily, and they could not keep from burning out halogen or xenon bulbs. Finally out of frustration they installed LEDs in there under cabinet lighting and have never looked back.

I have installed led’s in my TT like Panhead. I paid about half that amount. If you take your time on ebay you can find some really good deals on LEDS, you just have to wait for them to come from Hong Kong.

I replaced all of the halogen lights in my motorhome with LEDS from eBay. I suggest that you order a few different ones that you think will work first and try them out. The colors vary between sellers and warm white to one seller may not be the same as warm white to another. I ordered a few different LEDS and found ones that work for me. They are not as bright as the 20 watt halogen bulbs but are plenty bright. They are also much cooler, I measured the temperature on the glass light fixture at over 190 degrees on my lights before I installed the LEDS, now it's about 10 degrees above the room temp.

By existing U.S. lighting definition, light colors are measured in degrees Kelvin (color temperature).

Warm white is approx 3,000 K which is close to a normal 100 watt incandescent bulb in color temperature.

Cool white is approx 4,000 K.

The color that I like is 3,500 K.

The terms "warm white, cool white, etc. really mean little".

Unfortunately color temperature in K is a lot like color in general. We all like different colors and we all like different color temperatures.

A lot of the LED's you get on e-bay for low prices are in the 6,000 K range which is getting very white and even into the bluish range. The reason the prices are so low is LED's that produce this color temperature are the cheapest. It costs more to make LED's that produce warm color temperatures.

Also, the cheaper LED's aren't electrically controlled very well. LED's are very particular on the electrical characteristics they see. The higher priced LED's contain electronics that allow them to work better and longer.

This technology is still evolving and is getting better all the time, I'm just not ready for a major expense just yet. I do have an LED replacement for my 921 outdoor fixture. I really don't care about the color, I just got tired of replacing it every couple of weeks.

Will this replace the 921 bulb in my Jayco X23B?

Glsimms, yes these will work, but you can order them on-line for less, just spend a little time and look.

Here are the ones that I recently ordered to finish off my lights. I also ordered a few extra, just in case a few die.

Thanks for the reply and the link.

Is this what you use in your ceiling dome lights? My fixtures have 2 bulbs, did you replace both bulbs?

Thanks, Gerard

I started out only replacing one bulb in each fixture and removing the other bulb. I am now adding a second LED to the blank side. The single fixture bulbs above the sofa and sink were changed out during the first round. I added bunk end lights shortly after buying the TT, those fixtures where changed to the same LED lights.

By the end of next week EVERY bulb inside the trailer will be utilizing LED technology. I even changed the frig light (found a real cheap festoon LED unit). I also plan to change the Stove light to two LEDs as the light is not very good there. I am also going to change the outside patio area lights, only one of them can I use this same led unit. The step light will also be changed, but it takes a very small LED to fit in that fixture. In addition I added two more light fixtures inside the TT over the dinette under the upper cabinet for additional lighting; those lights will be changed out once I receive this next order.

I had intentions to procure a new switch so I could turn on each side of the dual fixtures independently and put different brightness of leds in each side. However, I have not been able to locate a dps switch that is compatible with the housing.

I purchased 10 to get started. In all I will have purchased 22 of these led boards, 20 will be installed and 2 will be spares (just in case). Then a few others leds for the step light and the frig.

The ONLY thing wrong with them is the foam adhesive. The manufacture has chosen the wrong adhesive and it will not hold up to the heat, and it will shrink up to a small ball after a short run time. I replaced the OEM foam adhesive with a heat transfer foam adhesive that I received out of the lab at work. Some people use construction adhesive to glue them onto the light fixture.

Realize this an older thread but I thought I'd share my experience. Originally I purchased the eBay "Chinese" 36 led arrays that came with a variety adapters. They work, the color was a bit cool white for my taste, I feel they still run hot in the fixture and the adhesive just doesn't hold up causing the array falls to the fixture lens.

Today I went back to eBay to what other options may be avaible. I found some disk type 24 led arrays that don't require the adhesive. These are shipping from a seller in new jersey, but based on the price (10 units @ $12.34) they must be coming from China. They claim to 3000k-3300k much warmer white than my current arrays, and 100Lm which is slightly less than the current ones.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/10pcs-T10-19...536f0c&vxp=mtr

I'll be sure to let other know how they turn out for me.

Clubhouse, these are some interesting lights. You may find these leds not to be bright enough at 100 Lums. My 48 LED boards are 190 lums.

My DW loves to read. With only one 48 led board over the dinette (mounted at the ceiling) my DW did not like it as it was bright enough to sit and read her books. However, they (190 lum) are bright enough for other tasks. I received my most recent order of leds right after our last trip (delayed in customs for two weeks) so I do not know if I have fixed the issues by adding a second led to the ceiling fixture.

I do know the incandescent in the new fixtures I added to the overhead cabinet (incandescent bulbs) over the dinette did help significantly in her reading time.

We changed out all our Halogen "Puck" lights to LEDs a little over a year ago.
Light output is the same and the light color is similar to Halogen bulbs they replaced.
Since we Fulltime on our Pinnacle they get used a lot of hours, had a couple of bulbs fail early on, supplier replaced all LEDs in the batch / lot.
All other LEDs have been fine with no faiilures in a little over a year.

3 month update: The lights I installed are working wonderfully. Not a single issue with them. In the past three months, we have travelled approximately 4500 miles and thru varying climates and terrain. Very pleased...
