Looking thru the poll

You got me thinking a little. Approximately how many campers are there in the US? (All brands)

Most recent survey I could find was 2011 and that was 8.9 million

8.9 Million? I don't think that # counts unless you can start a fire by rubbing two sticks together and have been chased through the woods by at least one bear... just sayin'.

Holy cow! 8.9 is more than twice the population of my province (BC), and no disrespect but I'm told Texas can fit in here a little more than 2 times.

Just happened to be an eye opener, to me anyway.

I wonder how many are active. I see a lot of campers for sale or just sitting in driveways not being used. I used to have a boat that sat in the driveway for 5 years until I sold it.
BOAT stands for Break Out Another Thousand. I wonder if RVs have something similar.

Just because it's in my driveway doesn't mean I didn't just get back from a trip. That does seem pretty high though. Are they counting children too?

Are you sitting outside the gate to Fort Jackson?

Given how hard it is to get an electric site in WI state parks, I find it hard to believe that very many campers and RV just sit idle all the time.

Sometimes circumstances may make thing appear that a trailer doesn't get used. Our situation has changed and we aren't able to go as often. This year our trailer sat for 2 months at a crack between uses.

RVIA's RV Consumer Demographic Profile shows RV ownership has reached a new peak and also offers promising news on future RV purchase intentions.
The research, conducted by Dr. Richard Curtin, RV industry analyst and director of consumer surveys at the University of Michigan, reveals the number of RV-owning households has grown to a new peak of 8.9 million households, up from 7.9 million in 2005. According to the report, 8.5% of U.S. households now own RVs, up from 8.0% in 2005.
