loud pressure sound

While driving for about a hour or so, we always hear a loud hissing sound like pressure release, followed by a strong smell of propane and the Lp gas alarms goes off. It last for about a minute or less. Once that happens, everything is fine. The generator is off and fridge is running on Lp gas. I don't think that is normal? Please help and advise

Your LP tank may have a defective or weak pressure relief valve.

I wonder if that is something we can check? We are driving right now.

It may be overfilled by someone that doesn't fill it by loosening the bleed screw on the side of the valve.

What RV do you have? There was a thread here before about propane tanks in a certain model of motorhome that got hot from heat radiating from the exhaust system, causing pressure to build up and blow out the propane pressure relief valve. I think the fix was adding some insulation somewhere.

Thanks for finding that Norty1. I was too lazy to look it up myself.
