Mileage

Second trip with our new Jayco North Point 311 RKTS. Both trips now we have averaged just over 10 mpg with our 07 Dodge 2500 5.9L diesel. I'm pretty happy with that. The trailer specs says that with propane and nothing else, the trailer weighs 12,917 lbs. Towing our 2013 28.5 Eagle (spec weight 7780) we were getting around 12 mpg. Just curious how the rest of you are doing? I do use a Smarty Jr. programmer set to towing mode.

Happy Trails!

Jim

I have about 600 miles towing out 355MBQS now. Dry weight 11,900lbs. This towing was mostly empty bringing it home. On the 3 fill-ups (26 gallon tank) I got 10 - 10.5.

I used to get 11.5 average towing our 10,000lb 35' TT, so I have lost about 1 mpg with the added height and weight.

Still not too bad for a 2003. I have a custom EFI Live tow tune.

Just using math in my head, you've increased your dry weight by 20% and seen approximately the equivalent reduction in mileage.

I'm anticipating seeing about the same.

I got just a little under 10mpg, but that is with a 5.7 Hemi gas engine, 3.92 gears and 8-speed auto. Makes sense the diesel crowd is getting a few extra MPG's.

When we took a long trip a couple of years ago, 3,800 miles, we got 12 mpg for the entire trip. Our FW is 30' long and fairly light, about 7,200 lb dry and up to 9,950 fully loaded. We probably pulled around 8,000-8,500 pounds on our trip. When we also hook up our 19' crestliner behind the FW and go to the lake up to Grand Teton National Park, we are towing probably 12,000 to 13,000 lbs and we still get right at 12 mpg. We tow with a 2012 GMC D/A crew cab short bed pickup. Very happy with the mileage. We have a little lower front profile and I would bet that helps with our mileage compared to some of the bigger, heavier FWs out there.
