More than 1 trailer?

Do any of you have more than 1 camper? I love our Jay Flight and couldn't be without it while camping with 2 kiddos and a dog, especially on rainy days. It's awesome to have a cottage on wheels.

But it's big. In some parks it's frickin massive and tough to maneuver, and it limits which sites we can book sometimes. It's also a pavement queen - no pulling it down trails and off road into nice hunting spots.

I would love to buy an older single axle, 15-16 footer, not too expensive, nice and basic and reliable, to take when it's just me and the misses, or hunting, or when I don't feel like burning 9MPG for just a night or two, you know?

Does anyone else rock 2 trailers? Am I crazy for even thinking about this?

I don't but it sounds very logical to me. I just bought my 26bh JF and already starting to think of possibly getting a 2nd rig that will be a small drivable rig and not towable for some of the same reasons you mentioned.

Did years ago, had a pop-up as well as a TT then FW. I would use the pup for weekend trips when DW couldn't go.

My parnets bought a new 31 foot Airstream in 1969 then 2 month later bought a new slide truck camper because they didn't want to scratch Airstream up in the trees or drag it though a ditch till they could get the road to the camp finished. Seems OK to me.

More than 1 trailer?

No, just the one for us.

I don't think you're crazy. If you have the $ and room go for it!

One point however: It sounds like you're expecting to save a bunch on fuel with a smaller trailer. IMO, that should be possible IFF (short for 'if and only if') you get a pop-up or a collapsible TT. Other wise that old devil 'drag' will hold you back.

My trailer obsession has gotten smaller each time. First was a 31' Airstream. Second was a 26' Nash. Now the 22 BHM narrow body. The only way I would go to a large trailer again would be if I was setting it up in a seasonal or permanent site. This being able to just hitch up and go is great.

Certainly truth to that. I've seen that 9mpg with my narrow, light weight SLX on occasion....

I did own 3 of my previous rigs at one time and wanted to keep them all. 2003 Mobile Scout travel trailer, 2006 pop up, and 2007 Mobile Scout Titan fifth wheel. Wife made me sell the 2003.

Yep, we own 2! As you can see in my signature, we own a big trailer for the extended trips across the country, and a small one for the quick getaway to the lake or whatever. I totally agree with the OP, the big trailer is a bit much for an overnight quick trip, but it can't be beat for the extended trips.

I've thought about it because I go hunting in Colorado and anything longer than around 20' is too much where I meet the family (who all bring their own sleeping arrangements). A nice small 15' for that and a nice 30' for the family would be great. But until then I will settle for my 19X to pull double duty.

I have this internal debate all the time of going bigger or smaller and can see the 2 camper debate pretty easily.

At 19' it fits us pretty darn well at the moment.

Bigger - lots more room for inclement weather and elbow room.

Smaller - Towing/camping with a smaller Tow Vehicle would be awesome!

Tried the 2 trailer thing and it didn't work for us. Was leaving one in Florida. Constantly worrying about it. What if the roof started leaking and we weren't there for 3 months? Plus extra insurance and an extra set of license plates to pay for.
Brought it home and have the smaller one for sale.

we have 2 trailers for just what you stated. big trailer way too big for dragging up into the mountains and going to remote camping areas and also for a nice quick getaway. the little one opens up so many more camping scenarios for us. insurance is very cheap for the little guy also. fuel mileage usually not so great so don't save much there. if you have room I say go for it. it is nice not dragging the big one around sometimes, it is a vacation for me just towing the little one. truck camper is actually a 3rd unit I have so I can carry my motorcycle on my bachelor weekends.

We are awaiting delivery of our new ’18 33RBTS on 8/2 that we will be putting on a seasonal site and probably won’t move it. At the time we purchased the new rig we kept our existing ’11 21 foot Jayco Skylark for the same reason. It’s a great small camper. We have since changed our minds looking at other things going on in our lives and actually posted our Skylark for sale today. Having the two if you can swing it seems like the best of both worlds!
