Narrow Beds vs. Full Beds For Kids?

My brother currently has a 2013 28DSBH Whitehawk. He has two boys. One is in 4th grade, the other in 2nd grade. My sister-in-law loves the two full size beds that the camper has for the boys. They are currently considering getting a new camper and they are interested in 2 models.

This would be almost an exact replica of their current camper. They'd lose certain things like dual access into master bedroom but gain things such as a larger shower and windows on the side of the slide.

My brother really likes this one because it gives the boys a dedicated room with a door. They also get an outside kitchen and more. My sister-in-law is concerned because the beds in the bunkroom aren't as wide as they have now. Granted, the bed over the outside kitchen falls somewhere inbetween the full beds in their current camper and the top bunk on the slide in the 32bhds.

What are your thoughts?

I have a narrow bunk bed over a double bunk bed in my unit. I can say my boys do not care which one they sleep in, as long as they have it all to themselves. So the double bunk only gets one, the single gets one, and the folding couch gets one.

I agree that width likely isn't the primary concern for the kids. One consideration we had was length of the beds. We hope to keep our TT for +/- 10 years and are a tall family. Some of the trailers with the configuration of the 32BHDS have pretty short beds in the back and especially on the couch side with a wall on each end. My oldest is grade 4 as well and I fully expect to be longer than the beds in that unit by early teens so only about 4 years out.

We have the double over double bunks and find that having the extra room in each bunk gives the kids lots of room to store their ipods/ipads, books etc. Also allows for extra sleeping room if they have a friend over.

My older kids (28, 22, 20) rarely camp with us but my youngest, who is 16 still does quite often with a friend. They all love the double wide bunks in our trailer. The older ones always complained of feeling cramped in narrower bunks or of their feet hanging over the edge of other beds.

We will be empty nesters by the time we retire this trailer and will likely go without any bunks on our next one. Starting over with grandkids, they will be able to sleep on the converted beds and not bunks.

Our old fifth wheel had a bunk room in the back with narrow beds. Once my son got to be 9 and daughter 11, they always wanted to sleep on the sleeper sofa. Beds were too small and didn't like them. So our new fifth has the two full size bunk beds and works great for us. We wouldn't have gotten one with skinny bunks again. Plus DW got a night stand and an outside kitchen it of it!

We have double over double, and I'm glad we have those with small kids (because they are wall to wall bunks). Even later on, I think it will be useful to have the full bunks - it gives them their own little "rooms".

We have the 2016 32BHDS and the kids love the bunkroom. Our grandkids are 11, 9 and 6. 11 yr old sleeps on the bunk over the outside kitchen, 9 yr old on the other top bunk and 6 yr old sleeps on the folded out J cube. They like having their own room and we like being able to get up and be in the living area without waking someone sleeping on the couch or the table bed.

we just switched from the whitehawk 28dsbh to the 28bhbe 3 weeks ago. kids are 13 and 10. wouldnt do the bunkhouse. adds to much weight and i think it would just get filled up with "stuff". our bedroom is a little tighter but love it!
