Need to make Campsite Sign - post yours!

Ok - I want to make a nice sign to post on my campsite with our family name on it. I saw the one below the last time I camped and really thought it was unique.

If you have an interesting or unique sign - post it here to give me some ideas.

quaint idea but too many people put too much info on these things.. your name where your from... basically telling the criminal element that your home is empty and ripe for robbing.

We actually talked about making a sign (several small ones actually). Our initial one would say "Gramma and Papa" (no surname). The next one would say Breezi. Then we would have four smaller ones that would have the kids' name's on them. We would make them so one hangs from another. We would only hang the name of the grandchild(ren) camping with us for that trip.

I know what you mean about TMI, but we call the kids by name at the pool, playing catch, pretty much anytime we're goofing around outside. So people are going to know their names anyhow. So what the heck. We may do the signs just to let the kids think their special

Esp with kids I tend to be super cautious. all a stranger walking by has to do is see the kids names he can call them by name and ... well you get the idea... even if you call them by name at the pool etc I would think TWICE before I would post a childs name...

I'm not worried about a bad guy figuring out that my s&b is empty. I don't have one or at least not one that I live in. It is rented. I live in my 5er and he knows where it is.

I think people will know when we are camping and the house is empty because the TT is not in the driveway! Nothing we can do about that.

I know it's a bit too small to read but here's our name sign as it hangs from the awning of our trailer. The sign is made in the shape of the state of Pennsylvania and says "The Martins, Pittsburgh, PA". There is also a mark on the sign to denote the location of where Pittsburgh is in Pennsylvania.

We bought the sign in the summer of 1987 from a gentleman who made custom wooden signs at a stand in Rehoboth Beach, DE. In the last 20+ years, this sign has weathered many storms- some so severe that the sign actually disconnected from the chain and fell off. In fact, that happened at this campground. My wife and I were attending a dinner/theater nearby and a sudden, severe storm with a sighted funnel cloud came roaring through. It was so severe that they stopped the show and herded everyone into the center of the of the building until the danger passed. Of course, we were unaware of anything like this happening and had left the awning and everything else out. I expected the worse when we retruned to the trailer. To be truthful, I wasn't sure if we would still even have a trailer. I was even more worried about the cat since she was inside while all this was occurring. But, when we arrived, the awning, trailer and cat had all survived. However, other various outside items were missing had to be located. Our name sign had crashed to the pavement and the small part of the state that protrudes (where the city of Erie is) had broken off. Fortunately I was able to find the piece and with a little glue and a couple of long, thin wood screws, I was able to re-attach it.

We have some camping friends from Ohio that also have their name sign in the shape of their state. It's a popular design.

Sign

A dear "camping friend" now deceased. took a small slab of pine 12" x 5" and carved our last name, block letters 1/2" wide. He drilled 1 hole min each end, tied a pce of rope on and we hang it over the campsite number sign. The license plates tell where we are from , the sign has our name so if you want more info stop in , hav a beer and we'll chat. The Demers'

Reminds me of years ago when Nebraska required you to have your registration visible on your steering column! :stupid:
