New Carpet or Linoleum?

It's time for new carpet, or we are considering linoleum throughout. Have you did this, we have 4 slides and I see all kinds of opinions about carpeting or tiling slides. If you have replaced carpet or linoleum throughout did you do it yourself or did you hire someone? What do you know about this?

If you are going to replace carpet, I would hire someone. If linoleum, I would do it myself. Oftentimes, the vinyl or linoleum is laid under the carpeting from the factory. They have a giant roll of it and they save time by not having to cut out all the areas that get hidden by furniture or carpet. The slides probably only have carpet

I had 3 units done over the years. My last class A we had vinyl (actually glue down, not peel and stick) planks. That stuff was great because it didn't bubble during storage being in a high heat area. We had a previous unit we did with sheet vinyl and it bubbled while in storage during a really hot summer. We did it all in plank vinyl except the very front drivers area we did in carpet. A lot depends on your slides also. My new unit has carpeting in the slides with carpeting that hang over the slide front base. So that would be difficult being the way the slides are. So our new unit has mostly sheet vinyl which is great. Currently, I have mats that were cut to fit around the booth/couch area and we have clear plastic in the area where the rest of the carpet areas are. Carpet for us is not option especially with kids or pets but we are dealing with it by covering those areas. We had a experienced installer help us install our previous projects when we did do them though.

I replaced the carpet, in the main area, with interlocking (Hickory pattern) floating vinyl planks and am very happy with the results. As for the slides, I will have to stay with carpet cuz my 5th wheel doesn't have a way to transition from the slide floor to the main floor. It needs the carpet overlay to cover the "roller bar". My plan is to remove the carpet and use it as a pattern to purchase a new and better grade of carpet then have the edges bound. Good luck with you project!

I have beeen looking at this mod too but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Lots of good DIY tips on Pinterest for both options.

Thanks guys!

There are a lot of videos on YouTube regarding this. I'm thinking of the floating floors also bit I need to make certain that they can withstand temps below 65, I know some click flooring cannot. For immediate gratification I'm thinking of cutting the carpet out of the living area and just painting the floor and using a huge throw carpet until I'm ready to pull the trigger! Just have to do it while the husband is at work! 😀
