New Goodyear Endurance Tire Observations

SWMBO and I headed out today for the first trip with new Cooper Light Truck tires on the F150 and new Goodyear Endurance on the White Hawk. The Coopers replaced stock passenger car tires.I put 68 pounds of air in the Coopers, their max is 80 psi. The GY Es got the max of 65 psi.

As soon as we hit the the interstate, the front end felt a bit "light". At the first stop, I cinched the Anderson hitch a few threads and it helped.

We recently traveled the entire stretch of I-90 from Seattle to almost Boston and back on a dying set of Les Schwab tires and the stock Rainiers. The Rainiers had 20,000 miles on them and were never a problem.

We have a Tire Minder TPMS on the White Hawk. The Rainiers had a max. Inflation of 50 pounds. On the trip back east, they never gained more than 6 pounds during the day of driving 6 to 8 hours. The tire temperatures never exceeded 90 degrees

The Goodyears, in 90+ degree heat today, each gained 11 or more pounds and warmed up to close to 100 degrees.

I guess this will be the new normal. Anybody else have these same numbers?

You may want to double check the max PSI on the tires. I also have load range E Endurance tires and the max is 80 PSI stamped on the tire. I have towed about 1000 miles so far and love the performance of the tires.

OP didn't say what the load range of the trailer tires is. The Coopers probably are LR E's. Only the OP will know for sure, but if he was replacing 14" tires, I suspect the new Endurance tires are only LR D.

Actually he posted the GY E's got the max 65psi, so LR D like you thought. Unless that was the rim rating....

Murff,

What Coopers did you buy?

Sorry guys.

The Coopers are load range E with max inflation of 80 psi. The Endurance are Load Range D with a max inflation of 65 psi.

Happy with both. I just was surprised by the increase in pressure of the GYs compared to the Rainers after a number of hours of driving.

Hey Murff,

Did the same GY Endurance LRD tire upgrade earlier this year, upgrading from the same Rainiers as you. My Rainiers used to start at 50 psi and run up as high as 59 psi in really warm weather. Starting at 65 psi, I find the GY tires will run up in the 74-76 psi range in warm weather. But as a percentage of starting pressure, the increase in my GY tire pressure is actually less than the Rainiers.

Have your axles been lubed recently? If your hubs are running warm, that might be elevating tire temperature/pressure. Still, I don't think running the GYs at 76 psi is cause for concern.

You are running a lower load range tire with the same load so am not surprised they heat up more.

How are the GY's a lower load range than the stock TT tires? Unless you're referring to the difference between the new TT tires and the new TV tires?
