Oklahoma campers

Most of Oklahomas state parks close after October 31.... Where does everyone go after those dates to camp!?

I live in okla. I don't know of a state park that is ever closed. However, I've not been to all of them. After black Mesa sp the rest don't count.

Well, I am not in Oklahoma, I am in Alaska. However, I would like to point something out which I see happening less and less; that is people getting out away from the park setting; bear with me.
I have camped all my life, growing up with my parents and then as an adult. I have owned and camped in almost every form of camping medium there is. I have found many state park and national park campgrounds close for the winter seasons in most states. Here in Alaska is it usually around first snowfall or October 15th whichever is first. Some campgrounds have gates which are locked and some don't. The ones that don't are usually available for use, but fee envelopes still have to be utilized and there are no services, bathrooms are locked, etc.
Have you ever heard of boondocking? In my opinion, this is the most fun. If I were going to restrict myself strictly to state parks and campgrounds, I would not have purchased a self contained camping rig. There is a reason I have a bathroom, water tank, water heater, holding tanks, heater, stove, refrigerator; the whole thing can be run on battery. That is, so I can get off the beaten path. With this mindset, I have found more great campsites than I can remember where they are.
Just this summer my DW and I once took a day trip while we were camping at a park and scouted a forest service road which was long and narrow, but was still accessible if we had been towing the TT. The big problem was, there seemed to be no place to park the TV and TT, and worse yet, no place to turn around, even with just the TV. Still, we kept going, partially because we had no choice. Around the 15 mile mark we decided this was not where we could bring the TT and camp. Then around the 23 mile mark, the area opened up, a nice fresh water mountain stream flowing through, lots of trees, plenty of room to turn around and park. Evidence of other people who had camped there. The following weekend we made the trek back into this spot. For four days we were the only people there, no cell service, no radio or TV reception, just the babbling of the stream, wildlife, peace and quiet and a great getaway.
My point is, we would never have found this place if we limited ourselves strictly to campgrounds, state parks, and national parks.

Parks in Indiana are the same, they don't actually close but their facilities are very limited. Not sure about parks in Oklahoma, but here a lot of the parks have a year around water source so if we happen to get a stretch of nice weather during the late fall or winter you can fill the fresh tank and camp. Electric and dump stations available year 'round. It takes so little time to re-winterize.

Scoot down here to Texas, our parks are open year round. As a matter of fact we will be at lake Texoma for Thanksgiving and most likely over Christmas break if the weather holds.

Thanks everyone for the replies so far...to NVGUN40, I would love to go boon docking, but with two kids I think it would be to rough for them, and where I live in Oklahoma would be almost impossible to do it without a cop knocking on my door wondering what I was doing! Lol. Most of out "state" parks close on November 1st. We have found a couple that stay open year round, minus the bathrooms and stuff! We are actually going to Roman nose next weekend! treatcg, I looked up Seminole campground and it looks like one I may go visit this fall! Hboy, I live very close to salt plains but never camped there, it's on my list! Make sure you honk as you drive through pond creek, especially when you get to the veterinary clinic, I may be able to hear you!! Lol. Thanks again everyone for the comments! Keep them coming! HAPPY CAMPING!

I was getting ready to head to Black Mesa this week. I didn't know it was closed.
I know Ft. Cobb is open, except for the bath facilities.
I may have to forgo the plans and head to Palo Duro.

Gosh, I've lived in Oklahoma for 67 years and did not know the state parks were closed in the winter. I've camped in many during the winter months and did not find the gate closed! That is all the way from beaver's bend to black Mesa.

Try Lake Thunderbird - about 15 miles east of Norman. I camped there for a week last Thanksgiving, and again for a week in April. I plan on spending a couple of days there in about 2 weeks. Hope you can find a place that meets your needs.

The RV Park at Choctaw Casino in Durant is the nicest I've ever seen.

I'm in Texas, but I am from Idaho, and here in Texas there just are not places to go boondocking like there were in Idaho, everything here is private property, no such thing as BLM and public lands where you can camp.

In Idaho, 90% or greater of my camping was boondocking, boy I sure miss the boondocking!

Yeah, most of the lakes close, or they say they do online and at the park gate offices. And some of the non lake state parks say the same thing! I have found several lately that stay open all year! I may just drive up to one and see what the situation is! I'm assuming they shut the water off for freezing purposes?!?
