Our prayers and thoughts with families of victims of school shooting in CT

Our sincere prayers and thoughts go out to the families of victims of the school shootings in Connecticut. Such a tragedy for all concerned. I cannot imagine the grief they feel tonight. Have no idea what I would do if my 5 year old granddaughter or 3 year old grandson were taken from me in such a way. May God lift those families up and cradle them in His loving arms.

X2, tinlizzie23. Except I don't have grandkids. What I have is a 9 year old daughter who burst into tears today after hearing about it, and a 4 year old daughter that asked if she had to go to school next week--she's afraid of getting hurt. I try to shield them from news like this, but I also want them to know that there are bad people everywhere. Isn't America supposed to be a civilized society?

Well said tinlizze.

My heart goes out to the families devastated by this tragedy.

In addition to the families and friends of the victims, please remember those tasked with the investigation. The evidence technicians and other officers who will have to work through the tragedy. Scenes where there is a loss of life are difficult but when children are involved, the task is much more difficult. The images will be forever ecthed in their minds and will be compounded by the feeling of helplessness in the fact that there is nothing they could do to help save those young lives.

This news hit me hard yesterday

I have a 5 year old grandson that started kindergarten this year. I also have a daughter that teaches middle school and a daughter-in-law that just started teaching kindergarten last month. Needless to say I gave them all an extra big hug.

Believe me, I run the whole gamut of emotions from sadness to anger. Prayers to everyone involved.

This is a horrible thing to happen we all expect our kids to be safe when at school. My oldest is starting her student teaching next month in Minnesota. This shouldn't happen.

Our prayers are with the family's, bless the teachers that had try to protect the kids. During a memorial service over the weekend some one called in a bomb scare to the church and had to be evacuated. there is some very touching info and books of condolences on some of our local news channels such as WFSB in hartford, WTNH in New Haven, and WTIC (fox) in hartford.

I've purposely laid low the past few days. The news hit me hard as well. There's just no avoiding it though, this is a truly horrible thing. Lots of love and prayers being sent to the families and classmates of this terrible thing.

There are some absolutely crazy people in today's world. Words can't describe the horrible events from last Friday. My family is still praying for those most affected (although this affects us all) by this madman's rampage. God bless us all. Happy Camping!!

This is a horrible tragedy and one that hits every community very hard. I have many friends in Newtown, and one friend of my wife's, grandson was in his Kindergarden class that day and witnessed far more than a 5 year old should. While this boy survived, it will take a long time to remove the scaring which was inflicted and the visions which he saw.
There are many places where donations can take place, and if anyone is looking to help, that's how to do it. In the Newtown area, the local mall (Danbury Fair Mall) and several stores such as Sears have begun to donate items to replace those locked in Sandy Hook Elem. as evidence. Book bags, coats, gloves and a host of other school related and personal supplies so when these students are able to return they have the things they need. This will also give the families one less thing to worry about as they have far more on their plate than they should. Hopefully, I'll be loading the pickup up tomorrow to deliver a load of these supplies to the school, there were 2 loads today.

Offers of volunteers grew so large, that the school district of Monroe had to ask people to please stop volunteering. Monroe has offered a recently closed school for Newtown to use. Hundreds of volunteers offered to renovate the school to accommodate the students of S.H.E.S. with a round the clock commitment to be done by Friday.

In the midst of this tragedy, it is beautiful to see communities all around the world respond with prayer, gifts, offers of help and acts of kindness. Those of us who live in the area are seeing tributes almost everywhere, scholarships setup, and just a massive outpouring that while doesn't negate the horrible act, does prove that the world is not going down the tube and there is true love and compassion with the majority of the world.

My wife just got back from Newtown. If anyone is interested in donating, I think money would be best as they have more Teddy Bears than they know what to do with.
