Plastic vs Brass Water pressure regulator

Just returned from our second outing in our 2014 Ultralite 197. In our starter kit the dealer gave us a plastic regulator. Used on the first outing and no issues. On the second day of our second outing I noticed a fairly steady drip. We were out getting resupply and I picked up a Camco brass fitting. For the next 3 days no dripping, I did notice how much heavier the brass is....Any concern with that in the plastic recepticle?

I've only used the brass regulator so I can't comment on how the plastic one would do.

I know plumbers would prefer brass fittings over plastic, so.... that's what swayed me to brass.

I use a brass fitting and also have a backup as I have heard they can fail and you will get no water. I would continue to use the brass and since the plastic one only has a drip keep it for a backup just in case. The stater kits are usually full of cheap parts but good enough to get you started. I would aslo eventually upgrade your sewer hose to the rhino flex hose. Usually the sewer hose in the stater kits are so cheesey you could practically put your finger through the plastic.

If I read that correctly put the pressure regulator on at the tap not into the side of the RV.. that way it will also protect your hose from splitting.

You read it correctly. That is how the dealer told us to use it. Your comment mankes better sense so I will do it that way. Thanks.

Nobody ever said the "dealers" know how to use what they sell.

Agreed! I have always attached it to the water tap. One other tip, (sort of related) is to take one of those disposable disinfecting wipes and clean off the CG spout before connection the regulator. You never know if a local 4-legged friend has come along to lift its leg on it.

Plastic vs Brass Water pressure regulator

As far as dripping, make sure you also have extra hose washers on hand. I use the ones with the screen. I also keep an extra Camco brass regulator. For cheap items like that, I just keep extras. For your sewer hose, take the advice and get the Rhino. Throw that other piece of garbage away. I had one burst on me. I was hosed down for awhile afterward.

I have a brass pressure regulator and elbow. It works fine, no complaints. Here is how I install, starting at the CG hose bib. Back flow preventer, water filter (if used), hose, pressure regulator (brass), 90 deg elbow (brass), TT. I have found the water filters can reduce you water pressure significantly, and I want all the pressure I can get through them so I do not get a trickle in the TT. The 90 degree elbow takes the strain off the plastic connector on the TT.

I too keep a few extra hose washers in the tool box.

I do beleave the plastic ones don't have lead in them, most of the brass ones have lead in them....they do make brass with out lead.
