Please excuse this stupid question about satellite TV...

I realize this might be a stupid question but I'm asking it anyway.

We don't plan on getting a satellite for the RV but it's "satellite ready". Does this mean we can connect to satellite if the campground has it as an amenity? Do you have to have something special to do that or is just plug and play?

Most campgrounds have cable TV. If they do offer "satellite", it would most likely be there own "cable system".

Do you need anything special? That depends on the system. The CG we stayed at last weekend had Comcast cable. The cable was free but the campground required a $35 deposit (refundable) for a cable box. (Comcast encrypts all channels).

You should have a cable input on your rig. You might want to invest in a length of coax with cable connectors.

Most provide their own cable signal. All you need to do is connect it to the Rv at the outside cable/ sat input coax. Do not turn on the antenna amp. Turn on the tv and scan for channels.
You may run into other options but most are this way.

If you want to use a sat dish and receiver that's a whole nother subject.

For satellite TV you need to provide a receiver and a package. Direct TV or Dish TV do not provide general broadcasting to campgrounds unless the campground purchases a package which is pretty expensive for businesses.

+1 on TWP723. I bring my Directv receiver and a round 18" dish on a tripod. It is a simple setup if you have a level, a compass and a fairly inexpensive satellite finder. Takes me about 10 minutes to set up and now we have all our channels for those rainy days.
