Pole Problem

Hey all, anybody got a good ideal about storing fishing poles. I have read about people using vinyl fence post, and my question is has anyone done this and how do you prevent others from (lets say borrowing them). I am thinking about mounting a couple under my fifth wheel. any suggestions or ideals would be appreciated. The wife is not to keen on me installing a rod holder above the kitchen table......

Thanks,

you can use the square fence post and attatch a small hasp and padlock on the end cap to help keep them secure. You can also use a marker and write "sewer hose" on the cap :hihi: to help throw off a would be theif.

What do you have for a TT and what kind of space does it allow? Commonly there are lots of hidden spaces.

I have two places I normally store my rods. I have five rods that I normally carry. I converted the storage area under my dinette bench across the front of the TT into one large pass through storage area. In the process I installed oversized cup hooks, to the above framing. Some of the rods hang safely out of the way. When I carry the big rods (11’ sea rods) they are placed in the gap between the J-sofa and the exterior wall. There is plenty enough room to store my extra rods there.

When i was really researching the JAYCO X213 this one guy was telling he was using the Bunk area along the wall on the shelf shown here for his fishing poles... I guess if you look around you can find somewhere to store them...

Hey all, thanks for the response I am pulling a 31.5 FBH Eagle super lite and and as much as I wish I had a pass through I don't. The only real storage I have is under the master bed which is about 6' give or take. Roy you did give me one ideal I have four bunks up front for the kiddos and I might be able to mount something on the under side of the bunks. I just don't remember how long they are, will have to look into that..

Hope all had a good Thanksgiving,

I carry a half a dozen rods (less reels) in a 7 foot piece of 6" PVC tucked up under the trailer. I put a cap on one end and a screw on cap on the other end, painted it flat black, and fastened it up under the trailer with long hose clamps around the smaller crosswise frame structure. I looks like a tube to hold a sewer hose. An interesting point: drill a half dozen 1/4" holes in the bottom of the tube after it is mounted. I can't tell you why, but before I drilled the holes, the inside of the PVC tube was always wet with condensation. Stays dry now. Mine is mounted about half way between the axles and the back bumper.

I store 4 ultralight rod and reel combos in the space behind my jackknife couch for transport. When I get to base camp, I take them out which allows the couch to fold into a bed without touching the reels.

You guys that use PVC pipe or fence posts, do you take the reels off when storing them in the pipe? Unless you use a 6" or larger pipe (as RoyW does above) I can't see them fitting in there with the reels on. One of my least favorite chores is constantly re-rigging my kids poles when they get the hook and bobber all tangled up around the rod.

I do take the reels off. Also, if you wrap a rag around the ends of the poles it keeps them from banging into each other.
