Portable ice maker

Who's using ice maker, any suggestion on make or model? Thinking this would be nice appliance when summer camping for our adult beverages.

I purchased mine a few years back from this site.

Portable Ice Maker, Countertop Ice Machines - Air & Water

We love it. I have the blue one because that was the best deal at the time. They have them on sale quite often. I bet they will have them on sale for memorial day. We use it quite often especially when our fridge ice maker at home decides not to work.

I know camping world sells them also but Air & Water had better prices plus free shipping.

Hope this helps.

X2.

Ours is the red version and is a staple in our TT. We're heading into season 2 of use with no problem at all. We even found ourselves using it at home 3-4 times during the "off season" or loaning it to friends for parties, get-togethers, etc when a bit of extra ice may be needed.

I wasn't actively thinking of purchasing one but stumbled across a stack of them at Walmart priced at just under $100. I'd never seen them at that low of a price point so I scooped one up. To this day, it remains one of our best purchases for camping.

Got mine at Amazon. It will make more ice than we can use - we keep a 2 1/2 gallon ziplock in the freezer to store the excess. One of the best camping accessories we have.

Can anyone provide some insight on the lower priced vs. higher end models? I'm not opposed to paying more for a product so long as the features are worth it. I have no experience with these units. My primary use would be to top off / replenish the beverage cooler during a 3 or 4 day trip.

Ours runs between 1.5 and 2.0 amps depending on which cycle it is running in (production vs storage ).

My son got the wife and I an Edgestar Portable ice maker and we love it. We can't keep up with it! It makes more ice than we'll ever use on a trip.

We have this one... https://www.walmart.com/ip/Igloo-Por...d=actual_color in Red, since it was $10 cheaper at the time of purchase. Love this. It dumps ice about every 8 minutes.

We bought one (Dometic) way before all these other cheaper ones came out. Was $300 I think back then. I think mine is 10 years old now and still works great. Only thing we use it for now is the ice chests for fish. It makes enough that we have to shut it down a lot throughout a weeks fishing/ camping trip.

My brother in law has been using it in his house for about 6 months. It makes ice every 8 minutes.

We got ours from Camping World a good 5 years ago... Dometic, I think. Works great. In the summer when all our friends are buying a bag a day, we're putting our extra in the freezer every night (about a 1 gal zip). That's letting it run all day, using ice as we go for drinks and the 'drink cooler', and turning it off at night (so ice dropping into the bin doesn't wake us up).

How hard are these to put away when you leave the campsite and pull the trailer down the road?

Easy!
1. dump the ice
2. put the ice maker on the counter next to the sink and pull the drain plug to empty residual water
3. replace drain plug
4. put unit on floor for safe traveling

When in storage, we prop the lid open a little, so it stays dry, just like we do the fridge.

Same here as crumgater said for the most part. Mine has an intake screen I clean, and I drain mine on the edge of the picnic table and let the sun dry most of it out.

I have one of these as well. I see them in many stores being sold under many names as well as in many colors.

Well, ordered one, Think Gizmos TG22, from Amazon that appeared decent with good reviews, got it delivered and gave it 2 trial runs .... disappointed with results and will be returning in the morning. It took over an hour to produce ice that maybe would have filled two cocktail glasses. Can't imagine hoping to keep up especially if we had guests. This machine is rated for 26 lbs in 24 hrs but can't believe it. Guess I was expecting a lot more out of it.

Unless y'alls (southern) are different than the two I've owned then there is a minor downside that's generally unspoken - until you start using it.

These ice "cubes" (hollow cylinders) are dumped into an un-refridgerated bin and at that point they'll start melting. Either use them or move to the freezer.
