First, thanks to everyone for your advice and insight in a former thread regarding the EcoBeast 3.5 over the 5.0. Sometimes your pocketbook gets a say in what you purchase.
Here in the PNW, 4x4s are the majority of Fords sold here. SWMBO has a bum knee and irritated back and stepping up into a 4 by was near impossible. We opted for a 2 wheel drive and saved a whopping inch in height.
After much research, shopping and letting some "get away" due to price, we finally got a new TV today to replace the Explorer Sport Trac. Now, don't get me wrong, the Sport Trac was a fair trailer hauler for the White Hawk 20MRB due to the light weight. However, I will admit some short comings. One being in comfort for my arse on a long trip. The Sport Trac made three major trips from the Seattle area to Michigan, Ohio and New Mexico over the last three years and did it quite well. It even did well in the "real" mountains named the Rockies but the hardest pulls were in the flat lands with a headwind.
Enough of the old. Due to fixed incomes, SWMBO and I decided on used. On Monday on Autolist, a new candidate popped up. 2011 F150 XLT SuperCab 5.0 3:55 Limited Slip axle with tow package with just under 58,000 miles on her. Priced at under 20K (and negotiated closer to 19) I felt it was a good deal. The selling dealer was good enough to let me take it to my mechanic for a full check. All they really found that was surprising was that the brakes were new in all four corners and everthing else was fine! The dealer gave me, what I feel, was a fair trade-in of nearly 14K on the 91,000 mile Sport Trac.
The F150 will be getting some personal touches. It will need the Ford integral brake controller, of course.
Anyway, here are a couple of pics of her:
I think it will match the White Hawk quite nicely!
So, am I crazy or stupid or what!
(Head still reeling)
