I don't know if this is the one you're talking about but see post #13 in this thread:

What a great idea! I absolutely HATE trying to fight my way in to remove the drain plug. I never thought of this. Is there a standard copuling that screws into the tank?

I wanted to make that modification, but on my Atwood model water heater, there is not enough room for the components. I can barely get the nylon plug in and out.

It's a plastic 1/2" male pipe thread to 1/2" hose barb fitting. Purchased it at Menards, just like Home Depot. It did take a little searching in the plumbing department to find it. It even appears to made out of the identical material that the original plug was made from.

The one I got was a threaded female brass to pvc, then a " street 45"a 1" pce of 1/2 pvc and the valve. I installed dry, made sure it all worked then glued it permentally. Work like a charm. Larry

Any reason to go with a 45 degree elbow from the tank?

water heater drain
I needed to get by an obstruction. There is a pic on the forum just a few days ago. Should be in the Hybred section. That is what I had when someone built it.

May want to consider CPVC rather than PVC it has a much higher pressure and temperature rating.
I like to pull the plug and than flush the tank with my little plastic nozzle to get all the hard water scale out.

I used a Nylon threaded nipple, same material that the factory plug was.
Used a full-port ball valve.
All the info should be in my mod thread linked below.

X2, mine is very simular, but my 1/4 turn shut off valve for a toilet or a sink. The tank does drain slower with the hose setup.

I sure hope you don't open the HWT when hot and pressurized
