Hey, I've done that. Long story, but we got soaked to the bone while away from camp, it was COLD and GF (now DW) was shivering something fierce. The tent offered little comfort, so we folded all the seats down in the Suburban (1988 4x4) and hunkered down until the rain stopped. Went to the local laundromat and got dried out as they were locking the doors for the weekend. The rest of the weekend was spent trying to avoid some of the mud.

Since then (about 15 yrs ago), virtually EVERY camping trip has involved rain of varying intensities, we have a curse or something. Last straw was a backpacking trip (actually 2 in a row) where DW got heat stroke, it thunder stormed all night and we ended up making an emergency trip to Dairy Queen. That was the day DW fell off the edge and cleared me to buy a TT. She said "I'm not going camping ever again unless I have a place where I can be cool/warm and dry, with a bathroom and shower, and I can lock the door". I said "well, I guess we're getting a trailer, because I'm not going to NOT go camping."

Nowadays, in the camper, we like to nap during the rain. Ironically, this is a lot of napping; we've only had ONE trip since we bought our TT that it DIDN'T rain! We also enjoy "Simpson's Monopoly", card games, and DVDs. If the rain is gentle enough, we'll sit out under the awning and listen to the rain.

We're expecting a boy in October, DW says I can take him backpacking, she'll wait for us in the trailer!!

We were at one of our favorite campgrounds this weekend. Sunday we had 2 fierce bands of rain come through. First one caught us by surprise. We went inside, the bride read a book, I watched an episode of The Pacific (HBO miniseries, fantastic, though not as great as Band of Brothers...!) and our 21 month old daughter played in her pack-n-play.

Second band we played Disney Apples to Apples under my buddies canopy with some of the kid sin the group.

In 4 years camping with my bride, this is the first rain we have encountered. We don't have a TV in our current camper. We don't have any phone or internet access at the campground we were at (one of the perks!!!). We didn't have our awning out because the high winds off the lake had started to pull the spline out at the roller.

For those of you who like mexican train or dominos check out Quirkle. That has become one of our favs rain or shine. We are always being tugged for a board game with my son. He loves board games and as a result we have a minimum of 10 on hand.

Another recent acquisition is Rack O for those "boomers" out there! I find I drink more playing board games than if it was sunny! Sitting watching the others "deal with the rain" is always fun too...

Nap...what is that???? Oh yeah that's when you close your eyes for 2 seconds and all hell breaks loose...

Books are a great rainy day diversion, as are naps, beers, indoor TT maintenance chores, cooking special meals, calling an old friend on the phone, or even just zoning out watching the boob tube.

Or you could put on a rain coat and check out nature during the rainstorm. Things out there look different when sopping wet with water, and are worth seeing when in that state.

Rain on the roof means turn on TV to the History Channel (low volume) and take a nice nap.
