Renting out your RV

Has anyone on here rented out your RV? If so how do you do insurance and maintenance?

I have not done it, BUT the GH I bought was leased or rented out for an extended period as I found a copy of the lease agmt in the owners manual after I purchased it. The agmt apparently had been written by an atty as alot of issues about who is responsible for what was spelled out. You could keep insurance on the unit and then just factor that expense back in to the lease/rent pmts just to ensure their is insurance. Renters don't particularly care if there is insurance or not, same for maint, so all should be spelled out in writing.

Nor would I BUT many people do for very good reasons.

Years ago I had an Itasca 31 class C. I bought it with the intention of renting it out through the dealer/rental agency I bought it from. This was the only way I could afford it back then. The dealer split the profit and maintenance with me. Pronlem was the maintenance was done by them at their rates. They made out well. Me not so much.

What I also learned was that nobody would treat my stuff like I do. The miles and hours on the generator added up much quicker than I thought they would. And I was aggravated each time I went to use it because it wasn't how I would keep it. Also, it was a pain because we had to empty all personal items each time we put it back for rent.

Overall not a terrible experience as I was able to have a motorhome when otherwise could not. Would I rent out my new motorhome now? No. Just my thoughts on this.

My neighbor rented either TT or RVs and if you saw how he neglected his stuff you would never consider it.

As I'm sitting here I'm remembering we used to rent a camper. I likely have a rental agreement somewhere...

My neighbor was joking about doing that for the Super Bowl. I suggested he do just that and:
1) increase the insurance
2) install the biggest flat screen that would fit
3) stock it with lots of "adult bev's"
4) put a large box of fireworks in the shower
5) store several gallons of gasoline under the TT
6) visit the RV show and pick his next TT

We've been renting our first trailer for a couple of years now. It hasn't gone without some things happening here and there. But haven't had any issues with misuse or negligence. We make enough to pay for that trailer, our new trailer, our yearly camping site, and insurance on both units + any maintenance.

my 35s precept is my baby i would never let some stranger or anybody use it if you want rent money buy a house oh by the way i have four rentals and people donnot care about your property so be careful.

I look at it the same way one would if you had a rental property and were the land lord.

If you don't mind taking care of all the maintenance and damage your tenants are going to create for you, go for it.

Along those lines, I wouldn't rent my home to anyone, but I'd have no problem buying a piece of property for the purpose of making a little cash. Look at it from a business perspective and it might make sense for some. I'd only do it if I had 2 campers and wasn't using one of them / didn't care much about it or it was purchased for the explicit purpose of rental income. I can think of less risky ways to make money, but look at all the businesses out there that are doing fine renting these things out. You won't find the owner renting out his own RV though.

I'd never rent my TT out to anyone - I'm to picky about having "a place for everything and everything in it's place". I don't think my unit would ever be returned to me in the condition it left in.
