Repaint

Have any of you ever had your RV repainted? If so, how much did it cost, where did you get it done? How long did it take?

never an RV but there are lots of variables in painting an RV. How big is the RV (Sq Ft) What quality paint? Clear coat finish? I was recently told by a local painter clear coat can run $150 to close to $1000 a gallon. The stuff for a grand is self healing and used on show cars? His words. I suspect any paint shop can do the work and how long would depend on how booked the shop is. Jayco is paying for refinish on front caps on some units, and that seems to run about 2k.

How do you know what font caps are being paid for by Jayco? Do they have a website with a list?

Its warranty work that's been done because of the front cap fading.

You can search "faded front caps" they are all dark brown. They had an issue for a couple years and they repainted some under warranty like Tunce the traveler stated. You had to be an original owner under the two year warranty and a few were done out of warranty as "good will" and I believe those were also original owners. Mine was under two years but I was a second owner and they would not do mine.

I was able to have the front of my 5W and the top of my TV done locally for 1K. That shop sanded the 5W front around the decals repainted and clear coated the entire cap. In one of the posts on faded caps a respondent said he could tell a spotted in repair. I can't tell on mine but I'm not a professional.

Truthfully, I had a few estimates over the years for paint work on rv's and they have been outrageous. What really hurts is the labor involved and also supplies. The estimate I got to repaint the front end of my class a (southwind) was around 5k. I ended up doing it myself, base coat, clear coat for about 450.00. Same with my pace arrow, I did the whole lower half baggage areas for about the same cost. But if your not a painter, you have to absorb what it is. 2K for a front cap sounds reasonable too me. I'd pay that price to have it done instead of tackling it myself.
