Replacement microwave?

Day 2 of 6 and our micro bit the dust. Best I can tell the magnetron is toast. We really miss it..lol....

Anyone replaced their micro, and if so did you go back with a Dometic? Trying to decide if there is a better aftermarket that is a direct fit.

Ours was equipped with a Panasonic, Terry, but that was back in 2000 so they might not make them any more. However, I thought I'd mention it just in case they still do. Ours is seeing its 12th camping season so I can attest to its longevity. The only thing I had to fix on it was that plastic ring with the wheels that the glass turntable sits on- it cracked. A squirt of super glue took care of that problem in minutes.

My camping buddy has a 2008 hybrid and his failed after less then a year, it was also a Dometic. Perhaps there is an issue with them?

Our micro is a High Pointe.
Not sure about this company though. The warranty card was to be sent to an address in Texas, but got returned as unknown address. Maybe their paperwork was out-of-date? The micro itself is marked as made in china, like too many things these days. We've only used it about a dozen times so far, so don't know about life span of this one.
Panasonic has a good reputation, if one of their models will fit.

Yep...ended in October.....at least it is a fairly inexpensive item compared to the rest of the appliances!

I just want to find a nice one that will fit and be trimmed out like it is currently, I don't like rigged.

Mine is a High Pointe also. It's worked well the few times I've used it.

We had a High Pointe(microwave/convection) in our 2008 Travel Supreme 5'er and it went out. Had an extended warranty but the person who tried to contact High Pointe at Texas location found out they were out of business. He replaced ours with another brand that was same size that was made to install in RVs. Just any microwave may not work because you need to be sure it has enough room for adequate ventilation. Our was a Contour brand but I don't know anything about the company. Almost all are manufactured in China or some other place OUTSIDE USA!

Well I eneded up ordering another Dometic, same model, while I was sitting at the camp site...figured it was the easiest since it already has the trim kit, etc. And as an added bonus I have an extra turntable glass...lol...

$136 shipped...didn't figure that was too bad....

Sure did miss that micro...especially with 2 kids along!

I still have one from WalMart that we used in a Class B. If mine, Hi-Point, I think) dies, I'll just use that one, frame around the opening and move on. I think I paid $45 for it. I only use it to warm coffee anyway.

Ha! Close lol....it is still in there, but it aint right....the metal inside of it was almost ready to catch fire and the food was still cold....I am no micro expert, but am guessing the magnetron is no longer projecting properly or at the right frequency.

I finally decided that it was not much extra cost to go with an RV micro that is supposed to be able to stand the abuse of riding in an RV....I am hoping that mine going out is just an anomaly and the new one will be fine....

It has a 2 year warranty and a 3rd covered by the credit card....

I bought a small off the shelve Panasonic for our last RV which didn't come with one. It's lasted 14 years in the last trailer and still works fine. I wedged it into the cubbord with high density foam and made sure it had good ventilation.
Just hope the High Pointe hangs in there.

When my microwave went out, I just measured the old one and went to Walmart with a tape measure and bought a cheap countertop one with the same dimensions and wattage. The little perforated grill strips for air circulation on the top and bottom of the microwave cabinet had to be trimmed a bit and painted flat black to match the new microwave (original was white) and it looks like a factory installation. I was initially concerned about air circulation, as the factory one had a small sheet metal duct screwed to the top of the microwave to duct the heat from the fan towards the front, but I've checked it many times, and overheating doesn't seem to be a problem and I made the change about 3 years ago.

We are newbies but on our 2002 designer the micro quit right away. I called Panasonic and was told they weren't able to search by size for a replacement. They said mine was no longer made. On a whim we stopped at a Best Buy and went in armed with measurements. They were super, we found one with in a 1/4 inch of the original, the little filler strips not only fit well but the screw holes were already in the new one. Best Buy sent a assistant manager out with me to check fit before we paid for it. Really great service, oh and it was $139 with turntable.

Mine went out when I was in Yuma 2 years ago. I think it had been used about 5 times. Took the measurements, went to Wally World and bought a off the shelf model (forget which), went to Home Despot and bought some industrial velcro and replaced the old one. I was able to use the trim from my old micro and with that velcro it ain't going anywhere. I think I paid about 70 bucks for the new one.
