Roof Cleaning and the Brush Question

At the end of last season I washed, waxed and cleaned the roof of my TT. I used Spic an Span for the roof as suggested in the owners manual. Note that I purchased in July and cleaned it in Oct., thus it wasn't too dirty. However, I was disappointed in that it didn't come as clean as I had hoped. I used the same brush(auto brush)that I use on my truck and on the sides of the TT. I think that it might not be stiff enough to clean the roof well. I'm scared to death that I may damage the roof by using too stiff a brush. Any suggestions on what brush to use? I surely can't be the only one out here wondering that! Another thought came to mind while searching for answers on this. I diluted my Spic and Span in a large bucket. What strength are you suppose to use the spic an span at?

I also use a soft RV brush on the roof, but I`m not too concerned on getting the roof spotless. I `m sure a stiffer brush would get it somewhat cleaner....

It's the roof. Who is going to see it after it leaves your driveway?

Do you use the cleaner(spic and span or similar, full strength or dilute it? Maybe I am diluting it too much.

I use the same brush that cleans my black vehicles (auto brush) with directly applied by sprinkling over small areas of the wet roof. It will get slick so I do an area I can reach with the handle from a non treated area. I then leave it on for a few minutes then give a quick rinse to re-wet and scrub again. This gets the roof bleach white for me. The second scrub really gets the tough stains loose. It helps if it is an overcast day or damp day as the direct sun dries it too fast to get it cleaned right IMHO.

I use the liquid spic n span and dilute it(maybe too much). Your saying you use powdered spic n span and put it directly on the roof with a little water?

Yes. I buy the box of powder. Usually one a season does it. Keep it in a bag, container or it will become a block. The powder makes a nice paste like cleaning agent vs the liquid. It gets slick so watch your step!

Wow, it certainly was hard to find the powder in my area! I went to their website, and searched for a local retailer. None within 50 miles for the powder! Went to amazon, and had it on my door step in 2 days.

I have used the powder with success. Several years ago, I got a spray bottle of Thetford roof cleaner. I like it much better. I wet the roof in section, spray a little on the roof and scrub with a brush, then rinse.

The spray bottle still has enough for a few more washes.
