Angry Rough usa roads Thread

Holly Cow,we just returned from Alabama from a wedding, camped at a nice state park, any way several stretches of roads on I 10 in Louisiana ,are very bad, you cant drive the perfect speed ! blew of to center caps some place, the jolts are so bad that you would think you had frame damage .
no problems at all on I 10 in Texas ,I 12 was ok in Louisiana. they know the freeken roads are bad FIX them !!! there could not be any more of a delay in the trip, as They had several stretches of road to a single lane, NO WORKERS any where ..............but still down to one lane, and reduced speed,
(Speed Trap) OK done with my rant !!!! carry on !

I agree with you on I-10. For us it's the elevated portion between Lafayette and Baton R. The I-12 was also under construction last time we travelled that way. Kinda rugged for an interstate.

I drive I-70 from Indianapolis to Pennsylvania. That is my worst towing experience in the last few years. Especially in eastern Ohio, west VA and PA.

Federal Highway Trust is............well unfunded/underfunded. Ruling class offers many reasons/excuses, and proposal to fix which primarily involves raising the motor fuel tax, though no one can decide how much.

When I was stationed at Ft Polk (Leesville, LA) I dated a girl in Natchitoches, LA. There was a road I'd take there that had a sign posted that said something to the effect of "unimproved road, travel at your own risk"....and I thought Missouri roads were bad.

I made the mistake of going down route 99 between Sacramento and Fresno CA. The only road that I have been on that broke the globes on the light fixtures and opened the cabinets to spill the kitchen goods on the floor. I have been told it has been that way for years. If your RV stays together on that road it is a testament for sound frame and suspension of the unit.

It's not just the roads.....it's our entire infrastructure system that needs dire attention. I was reading a DOT report based white paper the other day that something like 8 out of 10 bridges are deemed suspect and in need of structural repairs. Half of those are to the level that they should be closed to traffic because of structural safety issues. Think about that the next time you're crossing some 50 year old bridge on some back 2 lane road with your family in the TV headed to your camp ground..........and you see that CCC stamp in the concrete end abutment of the guardrail.

Down here it's the oil boom that has absolutely decimated the roads. Thousands of fully loaded (overloaded?) gravel trucks every day are just more than the roads can take. Our last trip to the coast was miserable. DOT is trying to keep them serviceable, but the patches are making it worse!

While it's great for the economy, I find myself looking forward to the eventual bust. Except then they'll NEVER get fixed...
