After how many years of using the same key in virtually every unit the industry is finally taking a step in giving their customers some security? Did they finally run out of the 751 locks?
Seriously, are the OEMs apparently starting to realize they have to provide more security with their products? Makes you wonder if their thinking was if you lost your key for the storage bins, they would save you money since you could ask anyone in the campground to open your access doors. Did they do it out of trying to improve security or because of the increasing complaints of owners and the higher visibility of the problem on the web?
At least a move in the right direction.

Since I had to remove one of the LP tanks to get it filled (Cold/rainy weather last few weeks here in the Blue Ridge Mtns), I figured I would take a few pictures for this thread. I drilled a 1/4" hole (.635Cm for you all north of the border) and used a long neck lock. Works great, but if you had a crow-bar the bracket would be no match for it. Enough to keep the unprepared, looking for a quick buck person away.

On a previous trailer I did what Mustang did.. on this one I used a spare bicycle U lock that is much sturdier and leaves no room to get a screw driver in to pop the lock.

For both of these propane solutions, what are you doing to stop a thief from just unthreading the rod from the bottom nut? If yours are the same as mine, locking the top handle isn't much more than a visual deterrent since the rod just unscrews out of the bottom tray.

The harder you make it the more likely they are to move on to easier pickings. Thieves aint motivated to work hard

A few years ago, I had one of my utility trailers sitting in one of our fields with a water tank on it. I have always put hitch locks on my trailers. Low and behold, when I went back to pick it up, I found that someone had tried to cut the lock off with a hacksaw. Even a cheap $5.00 lock was too much work for whoever wanted to steal that thing. If I get a chance, I'll take a picture of the lock. They didn't even damage it enough to make it unusable before they gave up.

Small spot weld on the threads/nut/frame will make it a little more difficult

For those of us without welding equipment, take a flat punch and flatten the threads on the rods directly beneath the lower nut. Make sure you back up the rod so it doesn't bend when you take the punch to it. Also you can drill through the nut and rod, inserting a nail through the hole so it won't turn. Then cut off anything sticking out of the nut. I used Locktite Red on my old trailer when I did that, making it impossible to remove the rod.

Red thread lock on it will secure it as well.

I ran a combination lock style cable lock through my propane tank handle and then down around the frame, it's hidden under the tank cover. Also did the same thing for the spare tire. Quick and easy to remove and would be a pain cutting through due to how tight the area is.
I prefer the combination locks because it eliminates more keys to keep up with.....and who can't remember "0000".....oops
