sanitize with Dichlor?

Does anyone sanitize with sodium Dichlor (aka pool shock)? I found a few threads on another forum about using Dichlor over bleach because Dichlor does no require you to flush the system after sanitizing.

We have a trip planned for this weekend and I reserved a full hookup site to sanitize my system ahead of a trip next month where we won't have city water. I'm trying to figure out a way to sanitize this weekend and not disrupt our trip completely while we wait for the bleach to do its work.

I believe you only need to leave the Clorox mix sitting for about 4 hours, then drain and refill with plain water, then final drain. So not even an afternoons wait time.

Personally I would flush regardless of what sanitizer was used.

One concern, will this campground allow you to drain one or two tanks of fresh water onto the parking pad?

Dichlor has cyanuric acid in it to stabilize the chlorine in the presence of sunlight, so no need to use it in your fresh water tank. The chlorine residual will be there whether you use dichlor or regular chlorine so you would still need to flush the system.

I think I'll go the chlorine route but with a family of 4 in the TT, I may need to wait until late night to start the process.

My plan is to pump the FW tank with bleach solution out thru the faucets then dump the grey tank as it becomes full. With a 90 gal FW capacity, that may take some time. The CG we are stay at is on a city sewer so I should be OK to dump chlorinated water down the sewer drain.

If you are time constrained, as explained in the Jayco owners manual and elsewhere, if you double the bleach concentration from 50ppm to 100ppm, the solution only needs to stay in the system for a minimum of 1 hour.

That's what I ended up doing and it seemed to work out well. I ran out of time flushing the tank and had to tow with a full fresh tank to the CG. It only took about 20 minute to pump the tank dry.
