Satellite TV POLL – DISH or DIRECT TV

With the possibility that AT&T may follow through with eliminating their DIRECT TV satellite services in 3 to 5 years (according to a Bloomberg article) along with their SET Top boxes, I was curious as to how many members use these services while traveling/camping. The options are DISH TV or DIRECT TV, since they are the bulk of the satellite services.

We just got direct. They're coming to install next week. Got a promo package month to month deal. Cancel and restart when camping again. Didn't get the Sunday ticket though. The offer expired last week. No loyalty to one or the other, just got who ever we called first.

I have Direct at home. I signed up for a 2 year contract because AT&T did not have uverse or fast enough internet speeds.

I have 6 more months and at that time I will be going to DISH. The equipment for using Direct in the rv was more expensive and I am sure glad I did not buy it.

I have DirecTV and have had since 1995. Only full time with an RV account since 2010 however. I will stick around until AT&T screws it up which they seem to be working on right now.

I have Direct TV at home and on-the-go via the Internet & iDevices.

The TV in the TT? We boondock and don't waste electricity on the thing.

I have Direct TV at home. I will be playing the switch game with Direct tv, Dish network, and then my local cable company. I have no loyalty to any of them. $$$

Dish

I have Dish on my Winegard. I bundled with them when AT&T was married to Dish. They got divorced and AT&T married Direct. Does that make Direct my "step mother"? I wonder who's next.

DISH at home and Winegard Dish 1000 on the RV roof. I take the receivers from the house when I go in the RV.

Dish at home, don't really know what I'd do with it on the road. Part of why I go is to get away from all of that. It's enough that I still have my phone in case of need. The TT can play DVD's through the TV, and that is probably more than we'll ever do, although it may be good one day to have that option.

We read, play cards or dominoes, or just sit and talk and enjoy the ambience. That's kind of what we are there for.

Both have pros and cons. We went with Dish; Winegard antenna and 2 VP211Z boxes. It's has been a great setup, good customer service and easy signal acquisition. I have been looking at the new Wally box but waiting for Dish to work all the buds out. RVing with satelite TV is a awesome.

We have Direct at home, and just added one more receiver to our account and installed it in the Seneca. The set top box cost us $110 and we pay $4/month for the extra service. Works great everywhere we go.

Which antenna do you use in the go?

We use DirecTV at home and in the RV for 15+ years and running.

I saw that article too and it made me chuckle a little. Sounds more like a pitch to shareholders than actual reality to me. ATT likes to brag about these pie in the sky scenarios but in the end, the reality is no where near the bravado. Until ATT can build out a network large enough and dynamic enough to handle say 20+ million HD/4K streams simultaneously and more importantly, RELIABLY, then maybe they have a chance. I'll believe it when I see it.

We've had DISH for many years...at our home base and in the rig.

Pathway X2 portable dish with a 211k and a 211z in the rig.

We have the 250 plan which gives us all the channels we like and more.

Use DirecTV at home w wireless video bridge and receivers. Had satellite (SWM) installed in RV. When we go on trips, we take the genie, video bridge and 2 receivers (3 TVs in RV) and plug them in. Keep duplicate cables and plugs in RV. We do not have to change or add/delete service. Its all under 1 account w 1 monthly charge no matter where we are.
Taking our Genie in the RV is an advantage too, since we have lots of recordings which we can watch even if the satellite has obstructions.

Seann,
If you would have PM'd me before I thought of doing this poll, then when I got the brainstorm I could have added Shaw Direct to the poll.

Thanks, but sorry, I did not even think of the Canadian satellite system.
