Seasonal campers-using satellite and internet

Hi, I have a seasonal spot and I was wondering if anyone uses satellite or Internet at home and at camp? I wasn't sure if there was an easy way to bring it back and forth. Thanks.

I'm not a seasonal camper, but I take my DirecTV with me on every trip. I have a 2nd dish on a tripod stand that I set up at my campsites. I take a box from the house and plug it in, run through the set-up procedure, and I'm watching TV. For a seasonal site, you might be able to set a post in the ground that doesn't have to be moved.

This works for Std definition or for HD, depending on what type service you have. HD dish is not too much more difficult to set-up.

How would they know if you move the box? There will be no extra charge as long as you don't tell them you have moved ... NOW it may affect your spot beaming of locals..

We have a dedicated one for the RV. $7 per month. We use the tailgator, Automatic works great.

I used to take my Directv with me from home. I have 2 extra dishs and poles in a 5 gallon buckets filled about a 3rd of the way with cement. When we had our seasonal, it was just a matter of finding the satalites the first time. As long as it didn't get too windy in between our visits and move the dish, it would just be a matter of plugging in the box. If we would go somewhere else I would grab my extra set up (dish, pole, bucket) and take it with me and start the process all over at each location.
It takes some time, but you can find the signal by sound comming from the set up menu. Not sure I can tell you exactly how anymore, but thats how I would find signal. The faster the beep, the better signal you had.
If you get too far away from your home zip code, you may loose your local channels and not have any locals while your away, but you could alway swap back to the antenna for those.

Directv didn't charge extra, however, I have been told that Dish network wont work with out a phone line or paying an additional fee.

We haven't had Directv for 2 seasons now. I got a "jack" antenna for christmas that I'm hoping will help with reception when were out. Good Luck! Dave

Always take a box from the house. No extra charge. Have used one for tailgating at football games or camping for 10 years.

I used to take one from the house as well, but never used it. So I quit bringing it along, but when I did I brought a receiver from home and the satelite dish was on a tri-pod
