Selfish and rude

Just a vent. Haven't been RVing for very long, but this morning just got under my skin. The folks next to us at the campground (30-40 feet away) were very nice last night when they got to the park. Came over and said hi, invited us to cornhole. Friendly. This morning at 10am the loud music started. 38 Special live in concert for anyone in the park to hear. On top of that they were washing there motorcycle trailer when says right in the park rules no washing.

Is this common? Why do people think the whole world wants to hear what THEY like. Why is it that the rules don't apply to some? I did walk over and ask him to turn it down. I said I came here for the peace and quiet and your music is cranking right at my rig.

Is this something that I should just expect or is this out of the norm? This wasn't a young couple. They were old enough to know better. I constantly walk a little distance from my MH to see if my music is too loud. I don't want to be THAT guy!

I have seen it a few times, over the years. To me it seems to happen more over holiday weekends and at private CG than at state parks. I have spoke with the park management before. Once at a SP they called in the local sheriff to remove one rowdy camping site, worse part was they had only been at the CG for a few hours before the cops came. One time I confronted a younger guy (collage age) who was sitting in his SUV with the windows open and the stereo cranked, and I asked him to turn it down. He stated he could listen to his radio, and I politely agreed, and told him that I did not have any issues with him listening to his radio. What I told him, the issue I had, was I did not enjoy listening to his music inside my camper. He politely turned down the radio and the issue was resolved for the rest of the weekend.

Hi Jason, its going to happen from time to time. Usually the best way to handle loud music is a very polite conversation. Mine would always start out with something positive like a hand shake and then maybe a compliment about his camper. Then just say something like " I like playing music also but do you think you can turn it down some. The sound does carry and I know a lot of people are here to relax and for some peace and quiet." It will usually work. Then i walk back to my camper and take off my Karate outfit i bought at Goodwill and then think the good Lord above i didnt get the tar beat out of me. A good attitude can go a long ways.

Always start out polite and respectful. You will come across all types as it is anywhere. I like your action of starting out on even terms with a friendly meeting before they get set up, then you have somewhere to start if things go south.

I also think part of the problem is that people like that don't know they're disturbing others. Like they DO think you want to hear their music, or they just don't know you can hear it because they either don't care or are just ignorant of how far sound travels.

Either way, I agree that the polite way is best. I bet a lot of the time it's folks just like you and me and they're very embarrassed about the incident. (I would hope anyway). If the first salvo of "hey friend how ya doin', could you turn that down, I don't want to hear it" doesn't work, then just contact management and let them deal with it; no sense in you getting your blood pressure up about it...

I only had one issue and it was about loud cussing in the slot behind us. Asked them to keep the language at the PG level.
While they did tone it down during the rest of the stay, they were extremely rude to us on the way out.

State Park over a Holiday weekend

Thanks for the pep talks. It's a shame that people can't just have common sense. I like the karate uniform idea. Hmmmm....what about full cammo, a special forces beret and a 9mm...just for show... Nah, wouldn't want to dishonor the real special forces folks and get my 9mm used against me. Luckily this isn't super common. Interesting that it's less of a problem at state parks. We were at Otter Springs in Trenton, FL. Pretty place and I never mentioned the issue to the staff because they were driving around ignoring it, so figured it was more than they wanted to deal with. Do higher priced campgrounds have higher IQ guests?

You meet all kinds at the campgrounds any more. I always try to be as non-confrontational as possible when this type of situation arises. With all the "crazies" in this world today, you never know how the offending party might react, even to a friendly request! If there is no response to your request, my advice is to contact the campground owners, host, or law enforcement.

That's a bit of an over generalization. I'm part of the generation of which you speak, and it's not just them. People of all ages act this way. I spend every moment of my time in the public aware of those around me and how my actions affect them. It's the way I was raised, to pay attention to my surroundings. It's important not only from a security standpoint (I don't like people behind me, ever) but from a politeness stand point (I hate being in someone's way or bothering them). VERY rarely do I get the same courtesy from people regardless of their age.

I think there's just too much of an "us and them" attitude going around...
