Shocked at pricing at the Early RV show

My wife and I went to the RV show today and I was absolutely shocked at the price of the same trailer that I have. The show price was almost $33,000 with the regular price over $39,000. When I purchased mine 4 years ago at the RV show, it was priced at just over $23,000 with the regular price under $26,000. Other than the skylight in the washroom and the exterior colour. It was essentially the same. We were looking at motorhomes and we are looking at over $100,000 if we want to get one.I love camping but not paying that amount. We actually saw one listed at $484,000!! That is insane....

Wife & I went to our first RV show this week. Of course, wanted to see new RVs, but primary reason was to see what sort of accessories were out there. There were more RVs than I could climb into. By the end of the day, my legs were like jelly from going up so many steps.Very disappointed in the virtual "zero" vendors showing accessories.

But with so many RVs, there were no X213s. I was curious what they might be costing new. I must say, I'm as stunned as you BCx213. 39K is crazy high.

I've never seen a "show" price match what you can order or get one off the lot for. I've always gotten 35-38% off of retail, and that's off factory retail. I say factory retail only because some dealers fabricate their own msrp. Crappy to do so, but so are the dealers that do it. I guess at shows you get a share of people new to the game that bite. I just go to look and see what's on the market.

The big jump in prices at the RV shows up here in Canada is completely due to the fact our dollar has lost so much ground against the US greenback. Like the original poster I bought my trailer back when the Canadian dollar was at or near parity with the US. I bought my trailer new in the US then (2011) and could probably sell it used today for what I paid for it new. We wont be shopping for a new trailer until the Canadian dollar recovers because anything made in the USA is crazy expensive up here right now.

A while back we looked at a trailer that the wife and I really liked on the dealer lot. A few weeks later the same dealer had a RV show at another place and we went to that. The same trailer that we liked was $4000.00 more expense. So I think that prices go up even tho it is the same trailer. Makes no sense to me.

Yes glad we bought in 2013 when dollar was near par. Would not be paying todays prices, same size Eagle at the show was about 61000.00 and the 27 or 29 was 47000.00 or 51000.00. I am sure you could deal them down but still very high.

Good point. I was just at the Calgary RV show and thought the prices were all pretty high but I wasn't really paying attention as we aren't shopping for a new trailer but I do notice the weak dollar on many other things.

Cheers

I purchased a new Precept 35UN in September for 79,000, it listed for 134,000. Bought it online, I went to the Hershey RV show but there were no deals anywhere close to what I paid.

C$33,000 = US$24,083 at today's exchange rate. Not too far off what you paid if the dollar was at or near parity then.

I've always wondered how a show price could be cheaper. The dealer has to pay for the space, pay to haul the trailers in and out (or at least fuel) and pay for any display they have there. They have to cover that cost some place.

I wonder if the manufacturers come up with some money or extra discounts at the shows?

Show prices are cheaper because they allow the dealer to place one order for a large amount of units that they will not have to hold in inventory. It's much less expensive for them because they don't have to carry the cost of the unit until it is sold. They also do not have to worry about not selling the unit.

Shocked at pricing at the Early RV show

I've only been to two shows and the prices on what I looked at were not cheaper. Not saying there are not deals, just my experience didn't reflect it. In fact my local Jayco dealer told me at the 1st show I had to lock in the show price with a deposit. I was told their prices went up after the show. Well a month later the prices were still the same. I asked and was told they decided to extend the show prices... I bought from another dealer and got more options for less money on the same trailer...

I think part of the reason dealers do well because the get new people in all excited to buy and they don't research. My brother-in-law's friend bought a 40' bumper pull trailer two weekends ago at the Richmond RV show. This guy has never owned a trailer and has a new 1500 Ram. I told my brother-in-law he may want to tell his friend to do a little research on his trucks payload. Well the guy was supposed to pick up the trailer later this week but cancelled his order earlier this week after realizing his truck wasn't the best fit...

Over the years I for one have not been impressed with the show prices at RV and boat shows. I think they are trying to reel in some emotional impulse buyers who get caught up in the moment and eye candy and just say "I`ll take it".

Based on where you live, I presume you mean the RV show in Abbotsford? Anyhow, we were there as well and like you, also shocked at the prices! It's the lousy Canadian dollar that's the culprit and there is no way we are buying new RV until that changes. We recently took a short trip to the states and it cost me $142 for $100 US. Insane! I think our camping will mostly be north of the border this year.

Reminds me of a story from last year's Ottawa RV show (which starts again tomorrow!). DW and I were touring a very large 5er with HUGE (maybe 60"?) flat screen TV and 4 of the big theatre seats right in front. Most of the trailer was entertainment centre. We were scratching our heads about people who don't get the concept of camping, and DW stated out loud "well isn't THIS interesting" with that tone of voice.

The one other person in the unit at the time started gushing about how fantastic it was, it was perfect for her and the family, and that her husband was right outside getting the deal done! We had to high tail it out as quick as we could so we didn't laugh out loud in front of her.

I spent most of the summer with visions of a family sitting somewhere in the wilderness in the darkened trailer every weekend playing video games, watching the game, or movies; never stepping outside to watch real life...

I would take that unit in a second and we are outside all the time. But sometimes it's too cold out, too windy, raining, muddy, bugs, smoke, out of firewood, kids are complaining, overnight stops at Walmart, coming too late to campgrounds.
Lots of reasons why I would love to sit in a front living room watching tv...not to mention the extra room for the beds and the kids to sleep.

Maybe tenters are laughing at you sleeping in your mobile house.

I have only been to one RV Show, but a couple Boat shows, and I have not experienced the "deals" others seem to get. Like Crabman mentioned, I think they are selling to an emotionally driven buyer frequently who are only hearing what they want to hear. I'm certain some must get deals, but I have not seen it personally.

You need to understand that it is a sellers market right now. Took a neighbor to the dealer that I bought from today. The salesman that I have become very good friends with said that he sold more units in January then he sold in the entire first quarter of last year. And he considered last year very good!!! Cheap fuel has really made it a boom market.

I don't even have to leave my campsite for this. DS and his GF camp out in a tent on our site and take great pleasure in ribbing us about our "glamping". Of course they also take great pleasure in a roof over their heads when the weather turns particularly nasty...
