slide and water on rug
Been getting quite a bit of rain and wind while camping and noticed some water on the carpet on the back side of the slide (near our rear bathroom). I first shrugged it off to my lack of whipping the side of the slide before bringing it in but then, realized the same did not happened on the other side and that perhaps the slide squeegee should take care of that????
anyone with same problem?
what is the fix?
Rig under warranty

No one?
The more I look at it, the more I think it's water sitting on the side window ledge on the back side of the slide. You'd think the rubber would squeegy this out but....
Maybe one more check on my check list...

"Water inside" is all I would need to head back to the dealer with the trailer. You mentioned rain/wind when you were out, and I wonder if that contributed to what you found. With a strong enough wind, I could see rain working past the seals. It happened to us with our fifth wheel in SW Virginia 4 years ago. 40 mph plus wind and driving rain; the slides facing the wind got a little damp in places they shouldn't.

I am not convinced wind was the culprit. I think it's design. you see, there is a window on the (back) side of the slide. There is about 1" trim where the water can sit and I doubt the rubber seal can get this on the way in.....
We'll see...

slide and water on rug
Was told that water sits on roof of slide and that I should wipe it before bringing it in. Is there not a "squeegy" type seal to do that while closing it?
Should i get a slide toper?
Water does not come in with slide opened. It comes in when closing slide after a rain

I put a slide topper on mine, the way I look at it is the less water sitting on the trailer the better. It seems kind of silly to have to climb up and wipe water off the slide before bringing it in. I thought they were designed to be used outdoors in all kinds of weather.

Yep. Just ordering one right now. I didn't know about this (water on top if slides and problems) until today.
More $$ on RV

I've been watching this thread, because having a slide in the TT is new to us as well. I've read in other spots some of the pros and cons of having an awning on the slide. So far, I'm going without the awning for one reason, that being it's difficult to clean the underside of the awning (and top of the slide) and over time, mildew will build up in between the two. Nothing worse than mildew! Anyone out there have more comments on this topic?

I think we'll be happy with the slide topper. I didn't know about having the clean and wipe the slide after rain or pine needles. This will take care of that.
Not sure about the cleaning part.

Hey, we had the same problem. Never had a slide before. Are the slide toppers expensive to buy? Is it something you can do yourself, or is it best left to the dealers? I think I want one...
Cheers,
JMR

it cost us appx 600.00 with installation in Canada where everthing is overpriced.
I beleive the topper was a little over 400
it doesn't look very difficult to install at all if you are handy but all I know to do is clean teeth

We haven't had a water problem. However, I have a short step ladder and sweep off the top of the slide before pulling it in. I can easily see where debris could get under the gasket and tear it up when retracting. Our slide does not extend very far and we often leave it in for overnight stops.

Thanks Boubou. I am also in Canada, so I know all about pricing! I think the "no shipping" to Canada is even worse. Anyway, it will be something I will get before fall. I don't want to be sweeping and towelling roofs. Just got out of a tent trailer, so I'm done with that. Ain't nobody got time for that!! Cheers!

I installed my slide topper by myself. It's a Carefree from pplmotorhomes. Had the same problem with a wet roof. It still gets a little dusty and sometimes leaves get in there but the main purpose for me was water shielding and hot sun shading.

slide and water on rug
we spent 3 nights in Syracuse at the Good Sam Rally.
Thursday was extremely wet (standing in water) and when I retracted the slide in on Sunday, there was still water on top. I watched the water come down when the slide came in but never thought to pay attention to the sides. Turns out, there was enough water up there, some still found it's way into the camper. Not nearly as much as before the slide topper but still a bit. The water only gets in with the slide in, coming in from the top.
Lesson learned, slide topper helps but I still need to be vigillant.

Boubou,
I wonder if the water was laying in a pool on top of the awning? Some folks put a chunk of foam or some such stuff, under the slide awning to prevent pooling. Of course you need to pull the foam out before you retract the slide. Just a thought.......
