sound machine

Anyone use a sound machine for "white noise" to drown out trucks and such in rest areas and truck stops? I know nothing will drown out the air brakes coming on, but I've been running my genny all night just for the white noise and it seems wasteful . Its nice to have the ac for coffee maker in the morning and my clock ,but I'm thinking an inverter and a noise machine might be smarter. I'm looking at these: http://www.amazon.com/Marpac-DOHM-DS...+noise+machine http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00..._al_bw_g121_i2 One is digital and one has a real fan

We have this one for our hotel stays. Since we always stay in CG we don't need one for the road.

OP, I have the one you linked to. I use it every day due to the extreme tinnitus I have from shooting without hearing protection as a kid and working on Jet engines for a few years in the Marines. I have one in my bedroom and I take it with me wherever I go if I'll be there overnight. I even have a white noise app on my phone, although it doesn't work as well.
The noise machine is fairly cheap. I try not to leave home without one.

The homedics one works, but the noise is electronic as opposed to mechanical, and I much prefer the mechanical version. I tried the rain setting on an electronic one, and after a minute or two, I could discern a pattern (the noise was basically a sound file of falling rain on a loop) and that drove me insane. All I could think about was the pattern I was hearing, and I didn't sleep much that night.

When we got a radio in the past, it came with a White Noise CD (rain, wind, chimes, waves, etc.). Bet you can download something like this to run on some device you may have. Here are some free ones from Amazon.

If you have a iOS (Apple device) check out the app 'White Noise'. Just what the doctor ordered.

Search for "White Noise CD" on Amazon. Pop it in the stereo and sleep like a baby.
