State Stickers ... The Rules?

I've not bought these stickers, and I was wondering if there are any "Rules" about them...

Do you add a state only if you camped in it, or does pulling your rig through on the way to another destination count?

When you get a new RV, are you "allowed" to carry over the states from the previous RV, or do you have to start over?


OK, I know there are no rules, but what does everybody do with the state stickers?

In my opinion, just passing thru doesn't count as a visit. To solve this problem, make one stop on the way through at a cheese shop, mystery spot, cave, or whatever, then you might post a state sticker. An overnight stay would certainly count. Gas stations and truck stops do not.

Of course you can transfer states from your old RV to the new one. After all, you are showing the world where you have been, not your RV.

We've wondered about that. Macfarmall's answer sure seems sensible. When I worked, there was a lot of travel involved, and I kept two unofficial records. One was the number of states I actually worked in, the other was the number of states I was just "in", like maybe an airport. I'm keeping a similar set of records with our TTs, Slept In and Wheels Turned In. So far, it's the same number, but I'm making it cumulative, both TTs.

can i get more info on what "State Stickers" are, i was un awware of any other regulations past license plates and insurance.

Our family made our own rules about adding the colored states on our map (we used the plain colored map vs the one that has writing on each state). Our travels of the lower 48 occured during the threes summer during their 'middle school' years.

-We agreed to 'stick' it to the driver side of the Rockwood tent trailer we had. We figured with us driving mostly in the number two lane, more people would see it.
-We would stick a state to the map once we got to the cg. If we didn't camp in that state, we would stick the state to the map once we stopped to eat (usually a picnic somewhere along the road or sightseeing stop). This happed when traveling through Iowa. We purposely drove from Wisconsin to Michigan via North-East Iowa so the kids could travel that state (otherwise, it would've been the one state they would have missed from the lower 48).
-We took turns applying the states. How'd we decided who went first. Jes' for FUN mind you, we all stood in a circle and each put one hand on top of anothers hand (biggest hand on the bottom) much like you see sports teams do when they yell out their cheer. I'm the one that had a quarter in my pocket, so I put in on the top hand (just turned out that head's was up). We all yelled "time to camp" as we lifted our piled hands into the air allowing the quarter to catapult into the air. When it landed, whom ever Washington's nose pointed to (or beak of the eagle if it landed tails), got to put the first state on the map. The person next to the lucky winner moving clockwise in the circle, would be second, etc.
-We could start our map off with the states all four of us had already been to, including when we flew somewhere and landed. (I'm sure people must've thought we lost the Oregon state sticker when they noticed that we had Cali and Washington ). We were also able to start with Alaska

So make up your own rules and have FUN!!!
