Strange Site
While on the road traveling, I take note of camper rigs as I see them, mainly because I’m jealous because I have not got to use mine thus for this year. Sometimes so jealous I want to salute them with a “half peace sign”!!!!!
This past Wednesday, Kitty and I were traveling when I noticed a strange looking fifth wheel meeting us. It appeared to have a dome of some type on top. As we met it was obvious it had a hole in the rubber roof allowing air to be forced in blowing it up like a balloon. This led me to ponder, “I wonder if the driver even knows?”
Has anyone else witness this?

I haven't seen that but I do remember seeing cars with a vinyl roof doing that back in the 60's & 70's. I think that was caused by a low pressure area over the roof while the car was moving. Bernoulli Effect I think it's called.

Have seen it periodically on FWs and TTs. Shows that people don't maintain roofs as they should.

Hummmmmm, now it makes me ponder; "Is the same thing happening on the roof of my camper?" and if so, "how would I know?"

A Go-Pro camera securely fastened to something on the roof, like the ladder? Take it out for a drive on the highway and have someone cling tenaciously to the fridge vent? (J/K). Have them follow behind and report their observations.

I have seen it once. Did a double take as it looked like a weather balloon on the roof.

I would think you would know because if air can get in , water can get in therefore you would have a roof leak.

If they ever looked at the roof I would think it would be obvious. Then again, I be many never look or think about their roof. One day when their roof is laying over the rear of the RV they will notice it !

That's why I always close all windows and vents before I leave. The kitchen exhaust vent too.

I have seen it several times over the years, on one MH it was so bad I was surprised the MH could even attain hwy speeds. Even tho I had seen this before I was not sure in his case, it was about half the roof.
As for knowing, well a walk on inspection from time to time should provide an answer. The roof is well stretched and at rest would have ripples in it.

Yep. I thought the thread was about a campsite that was strange until I read your first post.

I've seen it a couple times out on the highway. I wondered the same thing: "do they even know?"
Then I thought, even if they did know, what could they do about it? Perhaps they were just trying to make it home...?
