Surge Protector install

I finally got around to ordering a Progressive Industries 30A Hard Wired surge protector. I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to install it.

The only way I can gain access to behind my converter is to remove the converter itself. There's no other way to get in behind there. Is this what those of you that have installed it did?

That's exactly how I installed mine. I mounted it to the wall behind the converter. The wall is actually the back of the storage area box for the electrical cord.

On my 28bhs, Jayco made the box out of counter top material. I just made sure the mounting screws supplied with the surge suppressor were short enough to not go completely through the wall and damage the electrical cord(they didn't) and mounted it towards the top of the wall to give clearance for the converter. It's a little tight working back in there.

I'll try to post some pics when I get home.

Awesome, thanks so much. That's what I was thinking too, and I know exactly what you're talking about regarding that box. I peeked around the corner with a flashlight and mine is also made out of counter top material and I had that same idea about mounting it there with appropriate length screws. Would love to see the pictures when able.

Here are the pics. It was a really easy install for the most part. The only tricky part was having someone hold the unit in place while I marked the hole placement to mount it. Its a tight squeeze for one person, challenging for two. After mounting the unit, I pulled a little extra wire in from the box, fed it through the clamp, cut, strip, and attached the wires. Easy install. Progressive's instructions are excellent! The only tricky part (not all that tricky) is making sure you don't forget to have the correct wire fed through the current detector inside the unit.

Deciding where to mount the remote display was probably the hardest part for me. I didn't want to drill holes into my brand new cupboards so I came up with this solution. Unfortunately, I couldn't find my black zip ties.
