Surge Protector Question

Good morning fellow Jayco owners. I am just wondering how many of you have purchased a surge protector and if so do you have a recommendation for a model or type? I own a Featherlight 24T with 30 amp service. All replies will be appreciated. Thank you

I just bought a 30 amp surge guard brand surge protector. i wouldn't be with out when any longer. I had a power surge take out the electrical in my camper a few years back, I am thankful we had a pop up and not a big rig..

They are well worth the money spent.

We have the Progressive Industries Surge Protector.

With all the electronic items in RV's today like Microwave's, Refig Controls, A/C Units and many RV's today have Flat Screen TV's with some type of Radio / DVD units, having a surge protector is a good idea.

Many CG's do not have the best power at the camping sites.

I installed the EMS-HW30C Progessive Industuries Surge Protector (hardwire) in my 2013 26 BH after I purchased it. To many electrical items in the TT that could get wiped out without one and it could be costy. It was the first mod I did to the TT. I have not had any issues with the system and it has always worked great for me. I installed it my self. It took about an hour--only do the fact it is a bit of a tight space. I also like the fact I have the little monitor inside the trailer so I can glance at the amount of amps, watts etc being used. Many folks use the portable ones and they work fine. I installed the hardwire systems because I did not want to worry about having it "walk away" or digging it out each time I plugged in. I do know they make locks for the portable ones, but once again it was something I did not want to deal with. I feel the hardwire and the portable ones work the same--it just comes down to the $$$$ and the little extra time it takes to connect and secure the portable one.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. After reading your comments I ordered a Progressive Industries 30amp portable. i would have purchased a hardwire but I plan to get a new tt within the next 2 years. Will probably sell the portable at that time and go with the hardwire setup. Thanks again for all the great advice. I knew i could count on my fellow rvers to steer me right!

LiftedAWDAstro-- Unfortunately I negletected to take pics of my installation. I mounted the display inside the cabinet on the wall (sink cabinet). All I have to do is just pop open the door real quick, take a glance. I just ran the cable through the openings to the cabinet. This allows me to keep the aesthetics. I personally would have just ran it up the wall and mounted it in plain site all the time, however my DW had a different idea.

I pulled out the control/fuse panel and lossened a few wire tie downs/holds to give me more room to move the fuse panel more out of the way. I cut the 30 amp wired ensuing I had enough to make the connections and secure the protector. I then mounted the protector to the back of the opening after connecting the wires. There isn't much room in this opening and space was limited as to where I was able to mount it. I then resecured the wire tie downs/holds, ran the monitor cable and reinstalled the panel.
