On one of our trips we visited Grand Canyon NP and stayed at Mather CG. It was a great place and we highly recommend it. (Most of you seasoned campers have probably already been there.) Anyway, here are a few of photos from the trip.

1. OnTheGo and DW.

2. Imagine our surprise when a 12 point elk wandered through the CG. He was busy munching on some leaves, and didn’t care about any human activities. A ranger told us that it was part of his regular routine, and that he was relaxed until the rut starts.

3. One of the California Condors that is part of the re-introduction program at GCNP. It’s not a rare sight, but it’s not common.

Fantastic pics! We have not made it west yet in our TT. It was our first year with it. My dream is to go to The Badlands and Yellowstone next year, but we'll see. It's hard for my hubby to get away from his staging business and cattle for so long. I did manage to pull him away for 9 days this August, but then we have to hire someone (usually family) to feed our animals & look after the farm. We have a 16, 14, and 6 year old and I'd like us all to experience this part of the U.S. together. A funny side note: We celebrate our 20th anniversary in December, which means a trip for TWO! My hubby's request was that it must be in the United States, so I picked Hawaii (The Big Island)!! He was surprised and was thinking more like Charleston S.C./Savannah GA, which are both beautiful, but easily assessible by car/TT with kids. Can you imagine the air fare for 5 to Hawaii?!

Cruzin, my younger son is still mad at his mother and I for not taking him with us to Hawaii when we went for our 20th anniversary. He got into a bunch of trouble but friends took care of it so we wouldn't have to worry about it on the trip. Then, he was really, really mad when we went for our 25th without him as well. He has matured a bit since then and didn't say anything when we went back for our retirement trip about five years ago. Don't take the kids, spend their airfare money on nice accommodations, a rental car and excursions. The kids will get over it and you will certainly enjoy the trip a bunch more.
