Too cold?

We picked up our new JayFlight Swift 198RD on Friday of last week and left straight from the dealership for our first trip. In addition we are already planning trip #2 for this weekend.

My question is the camper is currently set up outside plugged in to electric with a full fresh water tank. Tonight's temperatures are going to drop into the high 20's. I do not want to risk anything freezing. I turned the hot water heater on and set a small electric heater inside set to 55*. I also opened all cabinet doors to allow all lines to stay warm. Do I need to take any additional steps? I personally do not think temperatures in the high 20's will be cold enough to freeze anything but why chance it. Thanks!

You'll be fine as long as it's not going to stay in the 20ies for an extended period of time.

Similar here, we're going into the 20's tonight and I have water in the pipes. I think that I'll be fine not doing anything because it would take a little while for the camper and lines to cool down to < freezing, but to be safe I put the furnace on the lowest setting. Gonna be cold tomorrow, then I think we may be done with it.

That's difficult to say. Where the water lines are outside the trailer I supposed they could ice up, but would it cause damage? Hard to say. I did a good job of winterizing the trailer this year but forgot about the DW's truck (SUV) and the summer window washer fluid froze up and "popped" the water line, causing it to come apart at a connector. Fortunately no permanent damage was done to lines or the pump.

Now for the confession of stupidity (or more stupidity I should say), this past week I took apart the interior of the truck to track down where the leak was and reconnected the line (which goes to the rear window wiper). I used straight tap water to fill the reservoir to find the leak and it never crossed my mind to add fresh anti-freeze after the fix. Sure enough, the temperature dropped enough over night to freeze and pop the connection again, flooding the floor mats. The point of this little rant is that you might be surprised how easily an outside line could freeze overnight with pure water.

Unfortunately I'm not sure I would do anything different than you already have. Your pump and interior fixtures shouldnt freeze.

Thanks for the replies. It is still 40 here so I think we will be fine. Just walked outside and camper is 60 inside.
