Tow mirrors a must?

I have a '12 Armada Platinum with the stock mirrors. I'll be towing an 96inch wide camper. Armada width is 80inch (not including additional width of the mirrors). Are the stock mirrors enough to safely tow on hwy or should I definately invest in some tow mirrors? Thanks.

I don't know for sure because I have them on my one ton.towing but other people in parks that I have stayed at have told me that they wish they had them. When I tow sometime I forget to pull my mirrors out (don't have the power extend mirrors) and I can tell the difference but I am towing a 43 ft coach.

They make a huge difference. I use slide on ones for my ram 1500 that has regular mirrors. The allow me to see down the whole side and behind my trailer. Cheap investment for what they provide.

When your panicking if there is something coming up the inside or outside when your trying to change lane you will wish you had them. Unless you can see down past your trailer you should seriously think of getting them.

Will do. Thanks. I will start out likely with some clip ons. Pick up my White Hawk next week and wanted to be sure.

Checking the specs on our old hybrid compared to our new 24FBS, the new one is 5" wider. We used towing mirrors whenever possible when towing the hybrid, but one of our favorite campgrounds is literally half an hour from our front door to the campsite. When we go there, I usually never put the towing mirrors on. But anything further away, the mirrors are used.

The strap-on ones vibrate quite a bit and a lot of people don't like them for that reason. For me, they work adequately well; I'm not interested in being able to read the license plate of the car in my blind spot. I'm more interested in knowing that there is a car in my blind spot.

Sure are a must and I got mine from Campworld. I can see down the side as well as my tires and they provide a great view when backing up.

Lots of good advice. I will say I've towed both with and without the wider tow mirrors, and I wouldn't tow again without them....

I would go with the CIPA brand about $40 or so from Amazon, Easy on off, stay away from the clip ons for reasons stated

I got a set from JR Products on Amazon that clamp onto the factory mirror frames. Pricey, but they are rock solid. Strap on, clip on, suction cup... Most of them vibrate and bounce while towing.

Yes, it is imparative that you are able to see around and as far down the side of your trailer as possible whenever you when towing

I bought a set of Cipa tow mirrors for my old Tow Vehicle. They were great and are very easy to install and remove. I think they were $40 online.
(Some states require that you have tie mirrors)

Don't have them, have never used them, and experience from 20 years of towing reinforce they aren't necessary. But don't believe me, go to any CG or look at the RV's you pass on the hwy. The stock mirrors on my silverado 2500HD provide adequate view angles and we use hand held radios when backing into a site or parking area.

Yes, I would recommend them. I use the clip-ons. Like the CIPA ones, but a different brand. They vibrate quite a bit, but like someone else said, I'm interested in knowing IF there's a vehicle there. Only thing that bothers me about the vibration is I'm afraid I might not be able to see if a tire blows. I've never had it happen, so I don't know if I would be able to see it with my mirrors.

I have towed short distances (like home from the storage lot when I forgot my clip-ons in the garage) and I have to adjust my factory truck mirrors WAY in to see down the side of the trailer which means I can't see next to me at all unless I lean WAY forward. No worries for the short drive home from storage though, it's all 2-lane roads.

Many states have legal requirements for mirrors, they vary from state to state. Here is AAA's summary of mirror requirements.
