Jake, we tandem towed behind our previous TT for 4 years without incident. After checking with law enforcement I had a custom hitch welded to the trailer. He also wired the four prong directly from the taillight. Nothing else added anywhere and I never had any trouble. Tandem towing is easy because the boat goes where the trailer goes. Now backing up, that's where it gets interesting.

If you are concerned about the amp loading on the TT or TV change out 2 or 3 of the TT rear lights with LED bulbs. That will reduce the load significantly and allow for the additional load of the boat trailer lights.

A side benefit of changing out all your boat trailer lights to LED's is that you have no worries when dunking it into the lake. With standard bulbs, the temp. change can pop bulbs easily. Std. advice used to be to disconnect the boat trailer wiring before backing in. With LED's, never an issue. Change the rear TT lights too, and your overall current draw with the boat will be far below what the original TT had, without the boat.
